Description GEORGE A. ROMERO--The Independent. Here is George A. Romero surrounded by characters from his films from top to bottom: Judith O'Dea and Duane Jones in "Night of the Living Dead", a soldier in white uniform from "The Crazies", Ken Foree in "Dawn of the Dead", John Amplas in "Martin", Tom Savini in "Knightriders", Stephen King in "Creepshow", Sherman Howard in "Day of the Dead", Jason Beghe in "Monkey Shines", Jason Flemyng in "Bruiser", Timothy Hutton in "The Dark Half", Kenneth Welsh in "Survival of the Dead", Dennis Hopper in "Land of the Dead", and Joshua Close and Philip Riccio in "Diary of the Dead"---I actually plan to give Mr. Romero this drawing when I meet him in a few weeks. Maybe one day I'll be able to do the same for the others.

Very nice work, and way to go for displaying the characters in the work as you did. Very detailed and took some time Im sure to figure it all out.
So have been able to give him the drawing yet?

I used to HATE zombie movies, though I've been a horror/slasher-fan since a kid, but then I was introdused to Romero. I fell in love.

This pice is well done, I especially like how you have portrayed Judith O'Dea, and her annoying way of acting in the movie.

Have you done or thought of doing one for Kubrick? And, for that matter, Coppola?

It'd be cool if you'd do one for Clint Eastwood. I think hes directed a number of films to include. Plus, he is one of my favorite directors.

Well "Land" for me was fun but there was something lacking in it. I do think people are way too critical of it but "Diary" was for me, just awful. The acting was bad, the writing was ridiculous. I like George's message behind Diary but I think one of the problems with it and Land as well, is that George has always tackled social problems in his work--all of the dead films in particular have had a social commentary underneath the surface but with Land and especially with Diary, the MESSAGE is right in your face while in his original trilogy, the message was downplayed. We know "Dawn" was about commercialism and materialism but it wasn't so spoon fed to us while Diary is so constant in it's message that it hurts the film. "REC" is what Diary should have been. Diary just comes off very unrealistic and very lame. I am so afraid "Survival" will be weak as well. But the bashing is similar to Lucas with the prequels. People love Romero's original Dead trilogy and it's very hard to top those three films. Night, Dawn and Day are all amazing films while Land and Diary were less impressive and classic.

Wow, amazing!! I adore Romero, and I adore this drawing!! Are you going to meet him? How lucky, pal!! Don't hesitate to give him this fantastic illustration. I wish I could do the same, hehe...

Congratulations!

I met him about ten years ago but all I had with me to sign was a VHS copy of "Dawn." This year I am giving him this drawing, a 40 Years of zombies peice I did a few years ago (which is in my gallery if you haven't seen it) and I am giving him a copy of my comic book "A Wish for the Dead" which was a tribute to his Dead films. He's appearing at our convention, Horrorhound Weekend in Indianapolis this March 26-28
