Since her childhood Courtney Whitmore was a fan of Mr. Freeze which often upset her family, wishing for ZCourtney to be a fan of more, you know, girl stuff. Like maybe makeup or dolls, or even boys - but not frozen vigilantes. But Courtney kept collecting Mr. Freeze photos and videos, and she wished to become the Frozen Philantropist's partner someday and freeze the bad people just like her idol. One day an unnamed cryomancer took Courtney as his student to teach her the ice magic - he planned to use her against his enemy, Sargon the Sorcerer. However, Courtney learned of his plans to take out one of the few nice sorcerers on Earth - and fought her magic teacher. Courtney defeated the cryomancer in the center of Gotham - and drew the attention of Mr. Freeze. The Frozen Philantropist did not make Courtney his full-time partner, preferring to use the qualified assistance of the Riddler, but Courtney became one of his allies, with codename "Ice".
