The retro look is something I've been experimenting with lately. Always enjoyed the grittiness of older scifi. It always makes for simples scene I can setup and let render while I'm out.
Last year was about working more color into my scenes and part of this year is to bring more color into the models. Be it with lighting or textures and emblems like you pointed out.
Should be an exciting year ahead.

Hello:
Β Watching those ships exploring makes me think they have a Starfleet-like side afterall. And that is good because not everything has to be conflict so the franchise can return to some of it's roots .

Hello:
Β Well, even during it's most "militarized" days (Ent, TOS, TMP, DS9 eras), Starfleet also kept exploration in it's heart, the TNG-era was a different time indeed, likely they wanted to experiment if those new ideas could actually work as they had no real threats in the horizon. the Borg incursion changed all that, that is why the massacre of Wolf-359 as been known as the "end of innocence" for Starfleet.
Β But, the Starfleet ships I've been making (well, mostly to redo before doing new ones) are set in a different timeline but in the TOS/TMP eras as a point of reference.
Β I myself got a sience variant of the BC-304 designed by NepsterCZ here in DeviantArt, you should take a look at his gallery too .

The Stargate was always about exploring. Unfortunately we ran into may hostile enemies along the way.
I wanted to show the pure exploration side of Stargae in this scene.

That is true, but what I comment was because it was like that at first but then the story jumped from one conflict to the other. So yeah, it is indeed like how you said too.
And that is also appreciated

You are welcome.
In my mind with a growing fleet and a protected earth I can see a return to the exploring nature of the early SGC.
At some point in the future I really want to do a science ship design.

Oh yeah, after the almost-disaster that was the ZPM-hive attack, it was needed to get ways to better-defend the planet
A science ship would be very interesting! The only thing I've got close to that is a BC-304 variant designed by NepsterCZ and that I made a low-poly version for A2:FO. But a proper design would be grat to see!

No where in particular. Just the excitement of exploring strange new worlds.
