Omg this was so hard to do...
The design is based on (European) knights, Japanese samurai and of course Cloud and Sephiroth's armor
I really can't draw armor...FML XD;
The sword is Gabriel's Twin Wings sword, Gabriel gave it to Cirrus or something... it changed with Cirrus' design
Dunno how I'm gonna plan this one yet XD
I also practiced on that mechanical wing, I'm getting there hehe XD
The red orb near his neck is obviously the summon materia
Background, textures etc. is random, dunno how I did it so I can't explain XD;
Only thing I know is that you have to use sharp contrasts for metallic surfaces

Also...all of this is made in GIMP, I don't have Photoshop
So you see you can still make good pics without PS!

I absolutely love the textures you used in this along with the colors which are very vibrant and interesting <3 I would love it if you would add texture to the character, though. The fact that he's completely smooth and doesn't really have a texture makes it look like he doesn't really belong in that setting, you know what I mean?
You could also probably try working with values a little bit: make your darks darker and your lights lighter. That could really help you make your image pop! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="

Squee! First critique
I'll try to explain a bit lol:
Cirrus' armor is very smooth, that's why there is no texture
The difference in the character's textures is in the shading, the "cloth material" has softer shading than the metallic parts :3
As for the values... they lost their touch when I put a glow on this pic, some contrasts dissapeared
But I'll keep it in mind X3

very nice you did a wonderful job x3 and for the record i never thought GIMP was bad :3 there are ..... friggen awesome artists that use GIMP x3 i know one I hate his utter awesomeness T.T but he's a cool person :3
anyway yes with metallics its hard to do those... you gotta make it really dark on one side and really light on one side while keeping the base tone so where light hits it light HITS it also where it's sharp is usually lighter than the rest of it but i'm probably telling you things you already know

Yeah I had to tone it down because I use "white metal" and "grey metal" and it's hard to notice with sharp contrasts

Looks great to me.
Love the colours in this picture. They're such vivid green and blueish hues. Looks great. Hmm, about the armor, maybe you should go for sharper contrasts, eg. harder, darker shadows and some darker texture on the armor to show that it had been used and a little damaged in battle.

As for the contrasts, some got lost when I put effects and glows over them D:
