how did you attach the parts to each other? or better: is there a better, but easy way to put the parts together other than hot glue (that doesnt provide the stability)??

Hot glue is the Devil! Good for glitter and silicone molding.
Hard joins are best, drilling, welding , soldiering. Otherwise, scoring and epoxy, slower set the better.
