Hey, it's the gentleman burglar himself! Like a lot of people these days I first learned about this guy from his Japanese descendant Lupin III. He had quite fallen down the memory hole by 1980, and I do believe it was the searching of many anime fans that brought Lupin I back into action. The Japanese loved this character, which fit into their image of "kaito", the dashing Robin Hood type of thief who only stole from people who could afford the loss, and had motive other than selfish gain. The animes "Cat's Eye" and "Saint Tail" are straight out female-lead versions of the type.

That's really interesting. I incorporated Lupin as an NPC to my steampunk-RPG because one of the players had a British gentleman thief as a character, so I checked whether there would be a similar character with French literature and Arsene became thus a perfect rival for him.
