Surreal, foreboding, otherworldly, dramatic. Something like a dimensional rift opening across a martian plane.This is a 'lenticular' cloud disply on Oregon's Alvord desert. These clouds often occur on the leeward side of mountain ranges before major storms. The color was like something I've only seen once before in my life.

I love the sense of unity you've created with this piece, the colors of the sky look like they were painted on the ground with a brush.

this is mind blowing. it's like something from star trek. the depth of red shades and the roundish formation of the upper cloud layer are just surreal.

A few of my photographs are from there. It's a spectacular place. (The group I was with decided we were going to try and walk across part of the playa, before we found out it's 7 miles across. It only looked about a mile O.o )

I am risking a guess to even say that none of your shots are HDR. Including this one.
I am guessing that a longer exposure would be used to gather all the light in the shot, but how do you get all the detail up front without blowing out the lighter colors (such as the white clouds) in the back. I have tried and tried, but to no avail, I have given up temporarily to settling with a mere silhouette shot of sorts.
