Surströmming! Mi gads, I once saw someone eating that on YouTube. I can't even begin to imagine...

Thank goodness smellovision didn't catch on.

Roadside stinkers? To me, they look like Marigolds (Tagetes, which belong to the sunflower family). Should I be right, beware: it is a flower very important to many of the many Indian festivities related to their many Gods and Godesses. You don't want to get cross with them, do you?

But no matter if I'm right or wrong: you caught these "Roadside stinkers" in all their glory. Actually an incredibly beautiful shot, and the bokeh turns it into a nearly psychedelic experience.

The longer I look at it, the more I'm taken. And I swear I did not consume any mind-enhancing substances. Apart from my usual Scottish water of life. But these products do not mess with my mind, as far as I can tell.

And yes, if these are Marigolds, I share your sentiment about their odor-related shortcomings. Nice to look at, but use a peg for your nose. For the peace of your sense of smell - and your general well-being.

MARX77 In reply to EyeDance [2013-12-12 23:30:37 +0000 UTC]

And just for the record: I don't hate roses, just the smell.

The 'modified' odorless variety are my favorite. It's criminal to even say such a thing, i know, but hey I'm only human.

EyeDance In reply to MARX77 [2013-12-13 21:34:32 +0000 UTC]

You may be a criminal, but one well within his own rights. I start to suspect that your allergies have a lot to do with plants. And there's a chance that, beside plants, all of todays artificial scents may be another culprit in this story. Pay attention to perfumes, fabric softeners, laundry detergents et al. There's a chance, unfortunately, that these chemical wonders are at the core of the problem.

Me, I don't like to use public transport anymore. Because if I enter a tram or a train or somesuch and there's somebody wearing the wrong perfume, then I'm in deep shit. Within seconds, my brain feels all fuzzy, I loose all concentration and even my sense of balance is compromised. Most hateful.

Still using the train, because it's very convenient, reliable and fast. But there's a price to pay if some cheapskate has chosen an artificial scent  to cover body odor , courtesy of Givaudan ( www.givaudan.com/ ) All lies. They are not better than Asad with his chemical weaponry. At least, these will be destroyed. Givaudan's poisons never will.

I fear no deity - unless someone can prove their existence; then I'll be running scared!

The smell of Tagetes I hate, but there's another flower that I find even worse. It's a rose.

I can't stand their smell. If there's one thing that can cause me to start gagging, it that flower.

The only time the smell doesn't affect me is when they make a rose jam out of it, or when it's added to tea or sharbat. Delicious!

Khuram?!? Plant photography?!? Who went back in time and killed a mosquito??

I saw these before, but I just call them "the flowers that look like chrysanthemums".

Great shot btw!

MARX77 In reply to Jinnger [2013-12-12 23:12:24 +0000 UTC]

It wasn't a mosquito, they killed a flea instead.

Chrysanth-what-a-emums? Man, I can't even pronounce that.

Thank you my friend!

Fave...

A very pleasing Picture...!

Here...you combine what you are skilled at:

Close up portraits...of flowers this time...

capturing Rhytmic Design...as in your architectural Pictures...

Bold use of colourwheel...the contrasting colour of stems and petals...

on a backdrop of the cool road...

and strong use of the framed area...

having the gently tilted diagonal  line...that row of Sharp flowers...

The invasive flowers are from the Americas...imported by the Conquistadores...

interrested in all forms of gold...these can represent botanical gold...or "Marys gold"...

Tagetes...In Mexico they were called: "Flowers of the dead"...you now know why...

I am pretty sure...Shakespeare was sitting on the side of your road...

when he wrote the famous sentence:

"There is Something Rotten...in the State of Denmark...!

For me...It is a Blessing...for once...

to be free of the massive Black frames...that tilt the contrast in many of your Pictures...!

Greetings to you Khuram...and your inspiration from Keld...for that nice Picture...Jakob.

Thank you kindly my dear friend.

The only reason I started adding bars to my pics was to keep the annoying dA green background at bay, and also because I'm a huge movie fan.

As a kid growing up, I used to draw comic books and I loved using black bars - killed twice as more pencils because of it.

Besides, even Keld uses them for his pics.

Tagetes...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tagetes

They are nice to look at it but they can be nasty...

Moths like them and if you remove the death blossoms you can get

a real nasty rash on your skin from the moths spikes...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MARX77 In reply to bindii [2013-12-12 19:45:12 +0000 UTC]

So they not only smell bad, but they can give you nasty rashes too?!

What an atrocious vile and nefarious floral life form this is!

We must send them back to whence they came from. But... where did they come from?

Oh noes!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bindii In reply to MARX77 [2013-12-12 20:19:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes as the moths dock on the dying blossoms.

They are originally from Mexico and Central America.

50 - 60 different varieties of flowers - Tagetes - ...

Nice to look at them but they can give you hell as soon

as the moth threads are on the dying blossoms underneath...

I had for a whole year burned, eczema hands... Just because

I removed the dead blossoms of neighbors garden while they were on vacation...

It was hell!!!!!! And yes as I found out underneath the blossoms were

the spikes of the moths... I had months of medical care, which was over 10 years ago...

Oh my! A whole year? I have never heard of anything like this ever happening with anyone before.

It must've been hell.

So glad you're okay.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bindii In reply to MARX77 [2013-12-13 17:22:48 +0000 UTC]

Yes for a whole year! I had to wear gloves

to protect my skin as I had open sores for a couple of months. It

was disgusting I felt like a freak, my social life

was down the drain and the university clinic

couldn't help much. Just Cortison ointment to

ease the pain - it was hell!!! They run tests

with that plant on my skin and they were all negative!

It was me how found out!!!

But the good thing was, that I always had a seat on

the commuter train while going into town, cause people

thought I had a contagious disease while taking my

white gloves off... It looked disgusting for almost

6 months and then fortunately it dried up and healed slowly.

But it was a very painful process. I'm happy that I've no permanent damage

from those "alien" creatures...
