Description Well the title is a bit misleading for this one. This isn't really underwater, though technically, ice is water, and this is a shot of the underside.

During my recent trip to Iceland and Norway, we made a loop around the ring road in Iceland. For those familiar with Iceland and its many wonders, there are a few places that you absolutely must stop if you find yourself near them. One of those places is the glacier lagoon, Jokulsarlon. Its a bit of a sad story in the sense that the lagoon is actually a relatively new feature of the landscape, only maybe 80 years old and caused by the retreat of a glacier.

But what it left behind is this spectacular lake with many large chunks of the glacier left behind that slowly float out to the ocean.

Glacial ice is one of the most amazing things to see. It has this deep almost glowing blue color that really needs to be seen to be believed.

In this shot, this is the underside of a glacier, backlit by some spectacular light we had that evening. I can only image the patterns were carved out by the water of the lagoon, that can be seen at the very bottom of the frame.

Enjoy!

Wonderful! That's fluid water down there, isn't it? These caves have something mysterious to them.

Yes that is running water at the bottom. However, this was not a cave, this was in the open air. This is just a close up of one of the pieces of the glacier that was floating in the lagoon.

Thanks!
