Fala was too curious and careless. For a long time she had been fascinated by these monsters, how they growled far above her rushing through the waves. Every instinct, as well as the old stories advised against approaching these strange colossi.
Regardless, Fala has ventured closer and closer to them over the past few years.
It had been several days since Fala had last seen one, and her curiosity was all the greater. Cautiously, she approached the rigid shape the size of a small whale. She had never been this close before; everything seemed safe.
Suddenly some fish sped past Fala, only moments later there were more fish colliding with her. A dense school surrounded Fala, so close that she could no longer see where she was swimming. Instinctively, Fala dove down, fighting her way through the dense school, only to be abruptly stopped by a tightly woven net. Her face pressed against the rope structure as the situation changed again dramatically and unexpectedly. The net was pulled upward, upward toward the surface.
Panic-stricken, Fala tried to find a way out of her predicament, but the density of fish around her grew ever greater, making progress increasingly difficult. Constricted on all sides and unable to move she was trapped. Thoughts raced, but no meaningful idea came to her.
When all the fish and she herself were lifted out of the water, the pressure on her body increased and Fala was filled with fear. Only a few moments later this pressure was released, Fala did never experienced the feeling of falling. Out of a mountain of fish she fought her way to the sunlight. Pushing the fish over her with her arms and hands, she reached the air. Air, she can breathe air, even if this has not been done by her species for a very long time.
With only her upper body revealed, she looked around, frightened. Several creatures caught sight of her, but unlike her, they have no fin.
"There's someone in the hold. We pulled someone out of the water with the net!" One of the men shouted and jumped into the fish with Fala. Frozen with fear, she couldn't react and was finally grabbed by the wrist. The man who rushed to help her froze himself when he saw Fala's lower body covered with turquoise scales.
From here on, the next few weeks flew by. Fala was taken ashore by the fishermen and spent only a few hours with them. During this time, Jack, the fisherman who had jumped into the hold with her, never left her side. At first, the two talked very reservedly. Slowly the situation loosened up and many questions in both directions were asked and answered.
Scientists arrived a little later and took Fala with them, Jack accompanied them. At the oceanographic station she was examined and questioned at length. Jack came almost every day to check on her.
After the weeks of examinations, Fala was taken to a resort with a seawater swimming pool. Here she came into contact with the numerous amenities of humans for the first time. She liked her stay here ever since and regularly refused the offers to take her back to the open ocean. This was mostly because Jack comes to visit very regularly.
