Description Name:
Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina
Year:
2006
Serial number:
ZFFCW56A330135441
Based on:
Ferrari Enzo Ferrari
Nickname:
The Glickenhaus Car
Owner:
James Glickenhaus
Residence:
USA
Notes:
P4/5 by Pininfarina is of of the last coachbuilt Ferrari cars created outside the factory. Since that, Ferrari S.p.A. launched Special Project Program and banned any coachbuilding which wouldn't be under their surveillance.
According to the owner, honourable ferrarichat.com member Napolis, P4/5 was not limited in any part, including headlights, doors and roof when the official SP cars are, but cost even more.
P4/5 by Pininfarina shouldn't be mistaken as a road version of Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus P4/5 Competizione Modificata, which is based on a Ferrari 430 Scuderia. This car is Mr. Glickenhaus' personal project and was never recognized as a Ferrari car, thus does not bear the Prancing Horse logo.

Brilliant Med, what is really striking is that this looks like one of those incomplete but complete drawings - if that was the intention its awesome. Your art skills are second to none

And it's you who said that?
OK, thanks. Many thanks, you got it exactly. A mistake I know about is the Horse on the fender shield, which - I hate to say that - was messed up by my carelessness. I drew it with a very sharp 8B graphite and was pressing a lot to make the small horse good and it started good - crack! And the point broke into dust, resulting in stabbing the ruins of graphite to paper. The worst was I left this detail as a final one. I'll try to fix it somehow, but don't know if the rubber is able to erase it

Jo, vypadá velice pěkně - sem- tam se mi tam něco nezdá, ale nedokážu pojmenovat co, a ten přechod od tmavé do světlé mi bere dech... Takže bych to zhodnotil cca. 93%...

STOP MAKING MY DRAWINGS LOOK LIKE CRAP! Seriously, I get all proud about my latest drawing, and then you totally blow it out of the water with your stuff.

LOL, just kidding, but really, this is amazing work.

Great work and interesting story behind this model...and I thought they wouldn't mind doing whatever the client wanted... So the official SP cars, for being limited in certain parts [like the ones you mentioned] can be 'cheaper' to produce , even being more expensive than a model like this one?

Jim Glickenhaus' car was about $4.000.000, when Eric Clapton's SP12 EC based on 458 Italia was over £3.000.000, which means $4.700.000. It's design was not much appreciated by Ferrari community when no-one said the car's worth the astronomical price. On the other side, each to his own, if Clapton wanted to throw all that pounds into the project, had fun and likes the car...why not, then?
Other SP cars known to public are Fioravanti designed SP1 based on F430, Pininfarina's P540 Superfast Aperta based on 599 GTB (SP2) and Superamerica 45, which is nothing else than tastefully modified 599 SA Aperta (said to be SP4). SP12 is rumoured to have it's name after 12-cylinder boxer type engine of Ferrari 512BB which pays homage to. Other say it's Special Project no.12. As the real number of SP cars is a top secret, who can tell? BTW one of them, probably SP5 or 6 is rumoured to be based on FXX platform

Holy crap O.O
I read about the SP12 and that the 12 is a homage to the 512BB engine, but officially, the engine is the same 4.5 V8 from the 458.
Anyway, nothing wrong w/ Eric Clapton or any other people hiring the Special Project Program, BUT...if I had that amount of money, I'd want a car as much exclusive as possible
In a world of cars that worth millions of dollars, not being able to get a car w/ unique headlights or doors or roof is something I honestly wouldn't like...call me eccentric or exaggerated, but that's my opinion

After all, I'd be payin' for that, so why not?

Medvezh In reply to Roddy1990 [2012-06-07 08:10:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the SP12 is fitted with 4.5L V8 from 458 Italia. The engine swap for some V12 or flat 12 cylinder would cause one serious thing - new car, new crash tests, new homologation process. Same with e.g. the headlighst. Pininfarina made the tests and they were homologated (like the rims), but it seems Ferrari is not gonna do that. Why? Don't know.
I don't feel you to be eccentric. When you pay for a unique car, why should it be a mixture of Enzo, Italia and a partly custom body?
What I really dislike about the SP12 is the triple exhaust. It is so much 458 Italia part that it has nothing to do on a totally different car, no matter it's based on it.

Roddy1990 In reply to Medvezh [2012-06-07 17:26:59 +0000 UTC]

I see...strange why Ferrari wouldn't do that But then again, we don't know how things work, how these guys work...

The triple exhaust is a homage of the 458 to the F40, none of them related to the 512, so I agree, they should made the exhaust like the 512's, w/ 2 tips on each side.
