Description January 15, 2008.

Pilot Color ENO lead.

Haha, a little more Neverwinter Nights 2 fanart! XD

In the world of Neverwinter, you can only use divine magic if you have a patron deity or something. I would have chosen no one if I could, but you're forced to if you're something like a druid or ranger (I chose Kossuth--fire god dude).

Here's the thing I don't get: Bishop doesn't have a deity! That's not fair! He doesn't have to believe anything in order to cast spells? EXPLAIN THIS TO ME! (besides that maybe the deity thing was implemented after Bishop's beliefs were already decided by the designers.)

Anyway, here's a picture of him trying to explain this loophole to me. Naturally, I want in on this deal, but on the other hand, it really did him no good in the end. >.>

If you can't read it:

Prax: Explain to me again how you can use divine magic and stuff when you don't believe in any deity?
Bishop: Why, I believe in myself! That's how!
Gann: How charming... an ego that rivals my own~!
Kaelyn: That's the spirit!

Okay, I just want to put my two cents in with this.

When dealing with table-top D&D, divine casters can opt to follow a cause instead of a God in order to cast divine spells. Perhaps the designers intended to put that in the game, but they gave up when it proved to be too much of a hassle/balance-issue.

Needless to say that Bishop's condition was created during this phase and remained due to lazyness on their part.

That's what I think, anyway.

Oh really?
I REALLY would have liked to have that option!
I was not too enthused about having to choose a deity that I didn't really feel like worshiping anyway.
But then there's that whole faithless going into the "wall" thing, right? XD

Atticus-Runemaster In reply to Meibatsu [2010-05-19 04:13:07 +0000 UTC]

True, but you have to remember that the "Wall" was part of the expansion that came after the main game. They probably threw Bishop into the "Wall" when someone realized that he didn't worship/believe in a God as they were working on it.

This is all speculation, mind you.

That's true. A lot of stuff they did was probably rushed through. xD
Made for a more compelling story though.. I guess!

You know, after reading the other comments, I have to say that I didn't realize that a Druid needed a deity to worship in this game. After some checking, I do believe that Druids in Table-top D&D are assumed to simply have a strong connection to nature, thus filling in the Divine Casting requirement of needing to draw your spells from some otherworldly source. However, I've suddenly remembered that this game takes place in the Forgotten Realms setting while I'm going off of the information in the Player's Handbook.

Maybe things work differently in the Forgotten Realms...

P.S. -- I play a Human Bard.

Danged Forgotten Realms! lol
Well, maybe next spiritual successor to the Neverwinter Nights games will finally get us out of this area and somewhere better!

I was also surprise when I see that, but have a deity is not really a bad deal XD
(it's funny to choose the worse!)

Meibatsu In reply to Lweeling [2008-08-15 00:47:57 +0000 UTC]

Yah, there's really no reason why he wouldn't believe in them (since he should KNOW they are real.. I mean.. how else would magic work?). I guess he just didn't think anyone "deserved" his worship. I understand that.. but I'd still rather not be thrown into the wall!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lweeling In reply to Meibatsu [2008-08-20 10:27:24 +0000 UTC]

It's true!
I think he ddidn't believe in one god because he is too proud and all that sort of things (and also doesn't want to serve someone.)

That's why we can find him in the Mask of the Betrayer. Maybe we can consider that gods believe in him, even if, he doesn't believe in them? lol
My character believe in Tymora, so there is no problem with the wall! XD (but if you make some red mage, you probably not choose some deity, so! I wonder what Kelmvor would say if the main character haven't someone?)

(I apologyze, I don't speak english very well)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Meibatsu In reply to Lweeling [2008-08-21 20:46:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, even if your english isn't perfect, I understood everything perfectly. XD

And hmm! Maybe I should play through again without a deity so I could be even angrier at the wall thing (and then Kaelyn would feel more sorry for me too!). Too bad I like being a druid and they force you to pick a god. I think Kelmvor would threaten you and say you're a fool for not choosing a god. Those gods are pretty mean.

Lweeling In reply to Meibatsu [2008-08-25 17:49:11 +0000 UTC]

Ahahaha XD
at D&D, you can't really be an athΓ©e! (don't believe in any god) But you can consider your deity as some part of your background...lol (Yep, gods are so mean! They have a lot of power, but depend on theirs believers! XD)
I'm wondering if it will change something to play MotB with a Kelmvor priest? I will try for fun :3

(Personally, my favorites class are warlock, wizard and priest XD But druid are funny!)
Do you like Kaelyn? I didn't find her very intersting, I prefer Safiya and Gann XD

(I'm happy that you understand me ^^)

Meibatsu In reply to Lweeling [2008-08-25 17:59:55 +0000 UTC]

I think he yells at you for disrespecting him if you're a Kelmvor priest! haha

I think Kaelyn's a little too obsessed with her fight, which made her seem like she only had a one-track mind. I think I liked Gann most because he didn't take things so seriously despite his pretty bad life.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lweeling In reply to Meibatsu [2008-08-27 10:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Yep, It will make Kelmvor mad! XD
But if I follow the rules and be a good boy (not doing the crusade, even if it's funny), maybe he will be happy? lol

Yeah, that's just it! Kaelyn seems to be too focused on one thing! Gan is more intersting because of his behaviour typical "chaotic neutral"
I find him clever, because he thinks more about things of life etc.
(my main character is chaotic good so! lol)

Heh, wonderful. ^^ The lines are spot-on, especially Gann. XD I can almost hear him saying it... ^^

Actually, to be fair, shamans are described as having 'divine magic drawn from the druid spell list'. DIVINE. But oh well, at least Gann has plot reasons to be the way he is... That is, he draws his magic from the spirits? O_o

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Meibatsu In reply to Kaytara [2008-01-19 02:34:41 +0000 UTC]

Yah, but that's what makes Gann a Spirit Shaman!

Bishop's.. a ranger! He doesn't make friends with anyone, much less spirits (besides maybe his wolf?)! He can't.. break the rules like that!

This is probably why he ends up where he does. lol
