Personality: Eager to please and eager to succeed would be one way to truncate Nico's personality; even outside the context of Fairy Tail and her fanatical love thereof, she is not one to sit well with the idea that people just might not like her. At the very least, she figures, there should be baseline state in which one is able to at least get along with others, so long as they are not doing anything actively objectionable. It may be a challenge, but challenge is something she's all too happy to try and overcome; even if she should fail, it's a learning experience to try and succeed the next time! Such a chipper demeanour might be seen as naive, but Nico likes to think of it as functional: She could waste her time mulling over her failures and wallowing in her own self-pity, or she could do something, ensuring that something, well, gets done. If one is curious as to what this means in the event of a Nico that actually can't do anything, like say, waiting for her train to arrive, the answer is one rather impatient and irritable young woman.
It doesn't help really that Nico has rather left everything behind for the opportunity that lies before her. She has cut almost all ties with her family, her homeland, and just her former life in general - both in a bid to make her dreams come true, and to leave the nightmares of her past in... well, the past. So while she may not readily admit it, Nico does struggle somewhat with adjusting to such a drastic change in scenario, whether remembering the correct language to use, coming to know her surroundings, or even just the simple matter of trying to take care of herself at all levels. To ease her spirits, she currently flits through a variety of activities, trying to find something that might serve as an anchor and distraction from her stress - at least, when she isn't working anyway. One definite positive to come out of her new life thus far has been the discovery of her affection for the tea served at Cafe Halu.
History: Born Nicolette, third daughter of the Marquis de Rosmarinus, Lord of the ancient March of Rosmarinus, tasked with securing the great Rosemary Valley that borders both Bellum and Iceberg. She grew into a household of expectation and duty, beneath a patriarch who cared for neither. Having been humiliated not many years before Nicolette's birth by the forces of the Empire of Alvarez, the Marquis de Rosmarinus was and would be most generously called 'a mess', holding onto his position solely for the fact that it is his by birthright, than by any qualification. His children became tools by which to secure that position, promised either to powerful wizards or powerful houses, in exchange for their loyalties and strength. Nicolette herself was technically betrothed at but six years old.
Her mother was technically better, but far too absent to be of any aid, as a Lady of the Bedchamber to the Queen. On those rare occasions she returned to the Rosemary Valley, time was most often spent reacquainting herself with her nominal husband; though she wrought no active cruelty upon her children, she did little to comfort them either. Each of Nicolette's elder siblings - five in total - found refuge in the power and precedence they held over the others, with Nicolette herself at the bottom of this localised hierarchy. Though there was once a time where this manifested in the form of truly kindred spirit between them, leading each other on in great games and adventures through the lands they called their home, the older they grew, the more they seemed to resemble their parents in the worst fashions; that, or learning all the wrong lessons from their failings.
This thus left Nicolette's tutors as her primary source of inspiration and influence. Many came and went - willingly or otherwise - but chief among them for the impact they had on her life was one Theresa Burgundy, a practitioner of takeover magic. Though the intent of her tutelage was to simply give Nicolette familiarity with the basic principles of magic, Theresa instead taught her charge how to wield it, albeit in only the most basic fashion. When it came to the Marquis' notice that his 'beloved' daughter was learning the principles of a magic designed to imitate animals, Theresa's contract was immediately severed, and the takeover wizard sent away. But the spark had been lit, and Nicolette - Nico, as the wizard had called her - fanned the flames of her curiosity. Scandalous catalogues of Sorcerer Weekly were somehow spirited to her chambers, textbooks and scrolls delivered to her doorstep thanks to the means of her allowance. By the time she was fifteen, Nico was springing about the gardens with far greater bounce than any human being - more like that of a bunny.
Her father was furious when, in another moment of brief sobriety, he realised what was afoot.
So began the long struggle between them, with the Marquis committing his servants to stifling Nico's interest in such a 'barbaric' art, while she did her best to convince them to look the other way. This did succeed in limiting the development of her magic for a time, unable to gather further resources with which to bolden her understanding - including animals whose souls she might take for herself - but not her passion. In particular, Sorcerer Weekly, through its vivid tales of reckless enthusiasm and wanton collateral damage - simply doing whatever they wanted with unlimited freedom - had given her a passion for that most (in)famous of guilds - Fairy Tail. It even had three Takeover Wizards, the great Strauss siblings! Oh, Nico spent many nights wishing she could be the fourth Strauss sibling - or an adoptive daughter, given the age gap. Maybe Mirajane's, she seemed nice.
Circumstances were to soon force Nico's hand.
Though a tour of duty in Alvarez - part of a peacekeeping exchange - had long delayed their intended union, Commander Richelieu of the Regal Knights - a man almost twice Nico's age - came to claim his 'bride'. Pomp and circumstance was aplenty, particularly as the Marquis thought he might upstage the wedding that had never been: With Bosco's royal arrangement falling through, why not provide the next best thing? Too bad for him, that on the day Nico was meant to walk down the aisle, she had instead walked out the night before. With a few favours, coin, and a great deal of determination, she had crossed the border into Iceberg under an assumed identity before he father ever knew she was gone, continuing even further west to the realm of her dreams. To the city of Magnolia; to the home of Fairy Tail.
Other: Nico's residence is a somewhat dilapidated bungalow on the edges of the city; the owner desperate enough to sell it off they accepted the cash payment without much question
