She and Tim had talked a lot during the previous month. The strange shrieks were unnerving but maybe, just maybe, they were a sign that the curse had lifted somehow. Viktoria, having been through the unwelcome change all too often, was a lot less hopeful than Tim. He'd talked of marriage but she would have none of that until she stopped these changes.

The changes were late when they came. It was almost as if they were fighting through some kind of resisting medium. But they did arrive and it took longer than usual to complete her change. It started with strange orange patches on her legs and tummy. These soon developed whitish bumps. Neither she nor Tim had any idea what she was becoming but Tim stayed with her. They watched as her legs thickened and lengthened. Soon they were tapered cone-like things nearly half again as long as long as her legs had been. Tim, a prairie boy since birth, hadn't even been to the ocean. He had no idea either. He quickly logged into the internet and within minutes returned with the news that those were tube feet. Starfish, it seemed, used them to pull themselves around. Viktoria amused herself for a few moments twisting them here and there before trying them underwater. Though she wasn't fast, the tube feet did make getting around a lot easier than just testing the arms about. Tim stripped and joined her in the hot tub. It had only recently been installed so wasn't truly hot yet, only slightly warmer than a swimming pool. He slid over next to her and she moved her arms aside to make room.

"You know," he noted, his brows furrowed. "Those shrieks happened when we, uh, made love."
"You don't suppose ..." Viktoria let her voice trail off.

Tim, for his part, began a slow massage of her shoulders that ended in several very amorous kisses. Since Viktoria had no openings between her starfish arms, Tim pulled her towards him until she rested, half floating, on top of him.
