Princess Platinum was the firstborn daughter of the Unicorn King, North Star. From what is known, King North Star contracted the deadly Swamp Fever and passed away during the time of feuding between the three pony tribes. This left the Kingdom to his eldest daughter, Princess Platinum. The Princess was highly skilled magically and trained under Starswirl the Bearded in his younger days. Her magical power was feared among the other two tribes and thus she was able to keep her people fed until there was nothing left. The sugar coated version in modern plays is far from the truth of what actually occurred in the formation of Equestria. Princess Platinum joined the other two tribes out of necessity, knowing that her people would not survive without the food and living conditions the other two tribes provided. The fear of Unicorn magic was still prevalent throughout the merging of the tribes and the Princess used this to her advantage. The Unicorns formed the upper class, living off the work of the other tribes with minimal resistance and establishing a capital which they called Canterlot. Princess Platinum dominated over the other two leaders although they kept peace and each served their own people. As a leader Princess Platinum focused on the acquisition of wealth and the formation of a royal guard to enforce her rule.

Chancellor Puddin’ Head comes across as a bit of a kooky old man but is incredibly skilled in leading his people. He was the one who established the symbiotic relationship with the other two tribes in which they grew and provided food. This deal allowed his people to become somewhat wealthy and prosperous before the Windigos came. When the land became barren, the Earth Ponies were blamed for the food shortages and the Chancellor, fearing for his people’s safety, was the first to leave to find a new land. When the three tribes found themselves in the same new land, he proposed a joining of the tribes. His hope was that they could continue on with their previous deal of providing food to the other tribes and his people would once again grow wealthy and prosperous. As the tribes merged, earth ponies returned to their jobs as farmers and bakers; however, the unicorns exploited their work, underpaying them and controlling through fear. The Earth Ponies' existence wasn’t all bad, in the prosperous new land they established Ponyville where they created a safe and happy community and a rich culture.

Commander Hurricane was the head of the Pegasi and an incredible strategist and wartime leader although not the strongest politician. Despite his and the Pegasi’s best efforts, they were unable to remove the storm from the skies above the earth ponies fields and were ultimately blamed for the blizzard until the discovery of the Wendigos. This led him to be fairly resentful toward the other two tribes through the formation of Equestria and although they were technically one nation, he formed Cloudsdale high above the rest of the tribes. Princess Platinum invited him to be the captain of her royal guard and he figured that staying in the Unicorn's good graces would be beneficial for the pegasi. He imagined he was taking a sort of “keep your enemies closer” approach; however, Hurricane found himself enamored by the princess. He remained as a figurehead of the pegasi while Private Pansy took over the main duties of running Cloudsdale under the supervision of Princess Platinum.
