There are several difficulties for a classical painter trying to critique an abstract or semi-abstract piece. Most notable and most obvious is the question 'what should it look like?' However, in deciding to review this piece, I decided I did not care. The abstract woman looks good, and this is something that overrides habits of observation.

It has many points I find interesting. The red shape to the right of the painting could be hair or a hand raised to the face in shock. She could be heavily pregnant with one hand on her stomach, or slim and outlined against a background. She could be a red-hot lava flow seen against islands and boiling waters. The difficulty and the joy of abstract painting is that there is no coherent message for the viewer, and they are left with their own decisions. In this case, the painting is complex and interesting enough that several impressions can form while one looks at it, and it gives a value that is not necessarily found in all abstract pieces.

I cannot comment on the technique's approach to the desired effect, but I can comment on the technique. With a solid central figure and hot/cold contrasts, this pieces looks good. The blending of colour and tone is pleasing, and it is interesting to look at.

When judging an abstract piece I do not ask 'Would I have this in my home?' but 'Would I have this in my corporate lobby?'. In this case the answer is yes. It provides enough interest to be considered a work of art above and beyond being an experiment in abstractism.

It took me a moment to see where she was, but once I saw it I liked it.
I think the colors were fine, but the strip of red in front of the face throws it off.
I think maybe going about it differently, maybe the way you shaped it might have helped.
But really, I like it this way.

Really nice i would love to see you dabble in more abstract if you get the feel for it and i think your color choice was spot on
