Hah, that's a clever idea. I always enjoy seeing two juxtaposing elements that don't seem to belong together somehow fused in a way that works.

How very stupid. What does pedophilia have to do with octopuses?

Appropos title. Am watching a similar situation unfold to a friend of mine - and it indeed look like the perpetrator - the tree/octopus - is alike to your imagery: seemingly frail and weak, whereas is really like the octopus at the bottom, can harness and bind its victim and spit out ink to blind its victim to the world outside.

The image itself is great- realistic, visually shocking- but the story and meaning you pair with it makes it a fantastic piece.

It strikes a nerve.
The technical critques have already been covered, so instead I'll offer my views on its symbolism. The cold trunk is a provoking allusion to the mature figure and its earthly appearances, and the smooth branches seem to symbolize the pursuit, short lived and virile, but bearing barren and empty fruit. The dark holes are like an obscene scream ringing hollow. How strongly the tentacles mirror legs is intensely stirring, grabbing hold with ferocity- but when exposed and bare to the light, it is pitiful and weak. The butterfly is lured to the edge of both extremes, colours and form lost amongst the sea of decay. The entire scene presents a subversion, a twisted depiction of true nature and corruption.
Well done!

since i don't know anything about picture tweaking i have no idea how anything is done.
like always, i have something against your cropping, you just cut off his tentacles at the end there, really could use 'em. arms, legs, fingers, tentacles, they're the parts of the body that we have the most motoric control of, so they show a lot of emotions.
on the other hand though, you had a good game between the upper blue side and the red one.
the blue side obviously is dead, having that lifless colour to it, and the tentacles, are all stiff, on the other hand, the red is pumping with life and the tentacles are lively.
the hardest thing to do was the merging point between the blue and the red, not to make it so, umm, unnatural, but you managed to pull it off.
but, cropping cropping CROPPING!

I am starring at this and I am not sure what to make of it.
It's disturbing in so many ways.
What I like about this is the creativity of it. The way all the 'legs' are there.. ready to suck you up .. to grab you without release ....
The details ....
The twisted background ...
You've really expressed yourself well with this piece.

Very cool symbolism. The term "deadwood" comes into my mind, dead wood or that, what isn't functional anymore, in nature as well as in games, the cards which are not on par with any suit or number. The soft arms of a squid, where suckers become teeth, getting bigger and more devastating with the closeness of the hug. Welldone!

Did you know they found the giant squid off the coast of Japan? It was 26 yards (?) long. first one on video/ film ever. good stuff to know. I like you're quasi squid.

It looks like it would be looking up child pr0n..that's for sure. If you added maybe some blood coming out of the tree-trunk, or another vulgar liquid, and slightly alter the squid-torso's colour, maybe to a sickening green, or brown, it would make the tree and the squid look more connected to eachother..that would add to it. But this is only in my opinion, so don't think much of it.

This piece is very nice, you capture the coldness with the tree and yet the disgusting nature of the pedophile with the squid. What I see is, the tenticles are much like the damaging effects of such a thing, reaching not only from when it actually happens, but after in the hearts and minds of all those years later it still hurts.
But that isnt all this piece has, the background, a beautiful choice in color rendition to emotion. The rough texture with the deep red and black, the tone into darkness. You managed to meld a lighter side of the piece, into a darker side, while still keeping the viewers focus on the work. Not only that, but where the two images obviously link, it is very well rendered into one, this seems to be achived not only with your skill in PS, but the choice of the slimey squid and shine off it - it pulls the eyes away, helping to trick the mind.
Very impressive A+
