Description
I'm a Terry Pratchett fan and have read most of his Discworld Novels and from time to time get inspired of his vivid descriptions of various characters in them. This is one of them, the troll Detritus, here depicted from Pratchett's "Moving Pictures". I loved the character from start and all his absurd troll- characteristics and just had to make a drawing of him. At least of the way I see him. He's not strictly "finished" artwork, more like a sketch but I like him enough to make a deviation of him.Technique used in this artwork: Pencils

If this is a sketch then it's one hell of a sketch. Haven't read 'Moving Pictures" yet, but Detritus is one of my favorites in the City Watch books. One of nature's Sergeants after all and there totally needs to be more pics of him.

Yep, I agree, there's too few, good representations of the good old Detritus.
And yes it is a sketch, I usually tend to be considerably more focused if I'm making a full illustration of it but I dunno... I think this stage works pretty well for that too so I gugess I can slack it sometimes

Hey, that's almost exactly how I always imagine him! I reckon trolls have smaller ears than that, but that's the best thing about great books, seeing how other people look at the same words and see something different.

Oh Thud's a really good book, love it. Pratchett's evolved quite a bit since The Light Fantastic and The Coulor Of Magic. As for Detritus, who wouldn't love him? Of course I had to make a sketch of him

I think its great, brilliantly illustrated, was hoping to see some sam vimes, captain carrot illustratrations in your gallery, much to my dissapointment there aren't any, would have loved to have seen your representations of those characters, anyway great work.

Indeed I do, love his works. He's got quite a lot of interesting characters to work with, maybe I should make more sketches of other Disc world characters

I am not familiar with Terry Pratchett (yet), but you've done a great job if all you've worked from were descriptions. I like the texture, the shadows, the expression, the stance,..... simply wonderful. Great job. Had I created something like this, I'd consider it done. I would be afraid of ruining it. Obviously you are a better artist, so I'm looking forward to the point at which you believe it is finished.

Who knows... maybe when/if he's painted and done with I might consider him finished. As for the better artist, I really don't know. I just do what I do without any thought of furthering myself as an artist. Much like having a meal or got to bed and sleep a few hours. I draw and paint, it's what I do
