Hey Thanks Derrick,
2, 6 and 9 have sold, and the other six are currently hanging in a small gallery.
Cheers

My favorite part of this piece is the shine of the eye juxtaposed to the blackness of the feathers, offset by the brilliant red and yellow wing pattern. I think you used just the right shade of blue, too - well done!

Thanks Aries, yeah the use of all three primary colours makes this piece stand out

You know it didn't even register to me that they were primary colors, but you're right! It really makes it pop

I can relate to the work you must put into your paintings, I have just completed a Philippine Eagle and it ate up around 30 hours, how long did this 1 take you?
Fantastic job.

Thanks!
Yep, doing these definitely takes time. I'm not sure exactly how long these bird paintings take, I did this one over a period of maybe 2 weeks, working on it here and there. Total hours probably around 13-15?
I think your work takes longer because of all the detail you put in the fur/feathers. I generally just try to give it some texture instead.

With every piece being a different animal I don't get the chance to practice the texture of 1 subject.
If I specialized in Jaguars for instance I could paint them in HALF the time the ist one took me.
I go over some areas 5-6 times with new techniques till I get it correct in my view.I imagine it would be the same with you.

Yep, I usually do 4, 5 or even 6 layers in my paintings. First is just base colours, then fleshing out the tones, then after that it's working on details, highlights and shadows. In the last stage I'm using my tiny little round which is like 0.5 millimeters thick, lol. Comes in handy when working on things like eyes, etc.
