Description An Almann knight, fighting on foot with a pollaxe as his primary weapon.
This was basically finished last year, but I couldn't be bothered finishing it properly. But I finally got around to working on it again, although I sort of rushed the background and the details such as the rivets, his sword and his baldrick. I'm quite happy with the look of the armour and the pollaxe, though.

I'm quite pleased to encounter a fantasy artist/author who actually knows what they're talking about. Most forget that sallets were even a thing (which annoys me to no end, sallets being my favorite type of Medieval/Renaissance helmet).

Those shoes seem to be a little tight.Β  Would be annoying if they got caught under the greaves - it'd cause the man to trip.Β  Most shoes of the period were actually loose above the ankle if they were meant to go over the greave, I believe.Β  Either that, or they just covered the sole and toes, if the foot was meant to be armored (or they'd pass under the greaves, somehow, without hindering mobility).

The metal discoloration looks realistic.Β

Is he called 'almann' as in alemanni?Β  Does that mean he was from swabia, which was an area of the HRE?

Alternately, real knights would just wear sabatons (that is, armored foot guards), which this fellow seems to be conspicuously lacking (he also lacks couters on his elbows, although it's excusable in this case to show off hisΒ nifty poofy sleeves).

It's good picture

If this dude is a knight he should afford to buy some armor for his feet, since many sword manuals of the time mention tripping or breaking an opponents foot with a nice stomp kick. Which of course would leave an opening for his enemy when trying to get back up.

I like it!

Though I would not wear my greaves inside of my boots, as boot generally aren't wide enough for armour .
