Ah... I really wish the fandom puts off those stupid To Where and Back Again glasses, starts appreciate their best moments that came after that crap and most importantly... remembers their past ones...
I just don't understand how did this happen, the Mane 6 hate that dilagated around the internet after the S6 finale is the biggest bullshit I've seen since the chaos happened for the Mass Effect 3 ending....

Indeed, I can't help but feel like people try to push every other character - like Starlight Trixie or the students - over Mane 6 and Spike, which is a shame since even after all those years, Twilight and co. are still best part of the show. But I guess people are too busy chasing the fads and what's new, even though "new" doesn't inherently mean better. To me the show is still about those 6 mares and I couldn' care less for all the extra cast that doesn't simply measure up to them.Β

Actually I do like Starlight and the Young six myself, I don't have anything against them, but despite that, the Mane 6 are still the pulsing cores of the series for me, and the ones who got me in it in the first place (and without the hand of the fandom I would add...), and I find really shameful that fans have forgot that only because a debateable writing choice happened in an episode that aired two years ago. My biggest concern of all of this: the next season is the final one, and as such, focus on the Main characters is pretty much due. A series finale is a series finale. What worries me is that fans are going to boycott the finale EXACTLY for being focused on the Mane 6 like it's supposed to do, and that would be really depressing... and stupid. I hope nothing grim happens...Β

I have mixed feelings on Starlight - for every moment she seems like decently written character she had some weird moments and I kind of feel like in bigger picture she's a Twilight-knock off - only less likeabke. As for Students, I don't like them, they just gimmick to me rather than actual characters with strengths and flaws and some dynamic. They are written in painfully safe and uninteresting way
Anyway I definetely agree that season 9 MUST put stronger emphasis on Mane 6. Season 8, to me was the show's weakest, and messed it up a bit with juggling too many characters. In perfect world I would hope for the Students to be written out of the show - yes, I know it won't happen, so for now I just hope for the season 9 to find proper balance and deliver proper treatment for Mane 6 and Spike.
As for fandom? Eh, fans can whine and moan for all I care, all the worship of Royal Sisters and background ponies just proves many of them focus on anything except for characters that actually matter and are likeable. If we gonna have a Mane 6 focused finale that would be great and only appropriate way to end this show.
