o: Really? Working both in the US and Japan (and living in both) I never hear anything negative about the other from the people. If I do, it's usually from ignorant, crazy, racist people from either side. The people seem to be quite positive actually about the other, maybe because of the great economic co-dependence. (National US polls always show Japan in the top four of favourite countries for many years, along with Canada, the UK, and Germany.) I've never realized there are still tender feeling, or seen this. Hmm. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention?

I suppose I should've phrased my comment better, since I can't really speak for any specific Japanese population, but I grew up with a loooot of old folks from that WWII generation along with the...old-fashioned patriots? [I guess you could call them that.]
It's not a majority who has this feeling, but it is still out there. Since the war, though, we have gotten into much better, friendlier relations with Japan.
My personal feelings have actually changed since my initial comment from two years ago.

You know its the weirdest thing, no ones ever dared mentioned the harsh tragic events of WWII dealing with JP & US relating to hetalia, its just too awkward or insensitive, I mean I know most of that generation is dying out in present time, the topic itself this close to manga/anime is slightly uncomfortable, but like I said, no ones mention it, I think your the first ever

I'm a WWII history buff, so it's just really backwards to see a relationship like this when the two countries have killed and/or imprison one another's people.
It's a rather brave step to put the two together, but this is just fantasy...the relationship is simply for fun.

While true its a fantasy it is outragously popular, for a series on an old sensitive topics dealing with world history, it can be seen as a more positive outlook in like "I'm over it, lets make fun of it" kinda way, but thats just me thinking alittle ahead of myself, but I could be right
