Traditional drawing of my OC Suzaku (in Heaven form, Earth form, Hell form).

He is a Buddhism-related character who continues reincarnating for thousands years.
Buddhism tells that there are the 6 worlds where the creatures reincarnate to. And it applies to his story too! And here is this picture to show the cycle of his reincarnation.

The 6 worlds to reincarnate: "六道 (6 roads)" in Buddhism:

天道 "Sky" - People in this world have the long life and much happiness. However, the suffering and death exist too.

人間道 "Human" - This world contains the suffering, but also the happiness. There is the chance that you meets Buddhism and train yourself to get out of the reincarnation, which means hope.

畜生道 "Beast" - Animals belong to this world. They must suffer in the severe environment for the survival. They are not afford to learn Buddhism, which means misfortune.

修羅道 "War" - People in this world can't suppress the rage, and continue fighting. Wars never stop there.

餓鬼道 "Hunger" - In this world, people are unable to eat anything. When you try to eat or drink something, it turns into the fire and vanish away. You will suffer from the hunger and thirst, even after you got emaciated to only bones.

地獄道 "Hell" - Sinners belong to this world. People must receive the painful punishments for a long time nearly eternity.

Suzaku is a sinned soul himself. (Even though he doesn't remember his deed done in long time ago.) And he is fated to continue being born and die in those 6 worlds.
He can't carry his memories to the next world when he dies. What he does in those worlds is up to him! If he wants to escape from this reincarnation aka prison of souls, he needs to do good deeds enough to wash off his sin...
