Description One of my favourite spots in the Highlands, this particular day was the windiest I have known, it was difficult standing upright, how i managed to get a shake free shot i've no idea. You can see how the foreground grass has been flattened and the water being whipped into a swirl. But it produced some dramatic lighting conditions

Its an area of the Scottish Highlands called the Black Mount which is a range mountains at Rannoch mor near Glencoe, a very popular area for photographers.

Yes, you pass by this place on the way up to Glen Coe, at a guess about 8 miles

This is film??? Wohoo!

I'm guessing that it's large format or a 6x7 medium format. Kodak tri-x film?

Im curious to see some of these in colour, unless you shot bw film, do you have any in colour??

monosolo In reply to Redterrain [2006-07-16 08:58:51 +0000 UTC]

I shoot pretty much exclusively on b&w film, I do have a very small amount in colour but to me they just become
'a photograph'. A b&w has so much more atmosphere and because I do all my own processing it becomes my interpetation of the scene

What a wonderful shot. Of all your gallery, I think I like this best. The coloring works so well in all your pictures, it's brilliant. Keep up the good work, my friend.

Very impressive atmosphere. It reminds me of a sublime background you might see in an old painting, only this is real life. My favorite elements are the huge dynamic range and the light beams shining down in the mountains. The slight warm tone of the paper/scan/whatever seems quite appropriate as well. It does seem amazing how some parts of the image are blurred from the wind you mentioned and others are apparently untouched. I've run into similar situations before and it baffles the mind, but I never complain when it happens. Beautiful area + awe-inspiring lighting + great photographer = Grade-A Deviation.

Amazing landscape.
You've really made the contrast work,
and made them enhance the best parts
of this photo.

So well done. This has a soul.

monosolo In reply to AnyQuestions [2006-06-27 20:28:51 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, it was very 'dynamic' conditions, severe gusts were the biggest problem, almost knocking you off your feet and sudden downpours then bursts of sunlight - Fabulous!
