Description This is a bit of an experiment.

I know that sushi has been done to death in polymer clay, but most folks tend to make a cane for the rice - clear in the middle, white on the outside, pulled and stretched, then cut into lengths. I always thought the result looked a little more like funny looking tile than rice.

So I wanted to try a different take on the rice. What do you guys think? Do you think it looks more... ricey?

This sushi is Vegetarian. I actually prepared this polymer cane exactly like you would prepare real (Maki) sushi - I made the rice, Nori, made the filling, and rolled it all up. This Maki has cucumber, red pepper, carrot, and avocado.

SupernovaDesigns [2011-08-03 06:07:00 +0000 UTC]

definitely improvement over the usual caning technique for rice. it looks like you rolled out individual strands for it? this kind of makes it look a bit like noodles inside hehe

are you able to reduce your cane at all? seems like it would mush together all the ingredients, which is always the problem i've faced with trying to make large quantities of sushi by reducing a cane

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

monsterkookies In reply to SupernovaDesigns [2011-08-03 15:44:16 +0000 UTC]

Hahah, it DOES look like noodles, doesn't it? XD

I'm going to try a different method soon, if I get the chance. No reduction required.

Adne [2011-08-02 21:44:49 +0000 UTC]

the rice looks awesome! but the nori is a bit too thick and too green, it's needed of a little bit more of a darker colour to it, and so goes for the filling. but for a first time, awesome job! :3

emosugarcube [2011-08-02 01:26:50 +0000 UTC]

Not bad; my first thought was that you'd made some rubber erasers for school or something...mostly because the colours seem very neon to me.
The rice has a lot of potential and so does the wrap itself!
your little carrots and inner veggies look a lot like melted bead...

You are Super Talented, so keep at it and remember that no matter how they turn out - Your fan base is rabid and will go to war against those who challenge you XD

monsterkookies In reply to emosugarcube [2011-08-02 01:58:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I totally need to go back and do something different with the veggies. Make them more real, ya know? I've never been that great at miniature foods.

Thanks for your honest reply! I really appreciate the feedback, sugarcube.
