Where: Dierenpark Zie-ZOO Volkel, The Netherlands
Our little girlfriend looked a bit disheveled for a while there, after her mate died. But she started perking up, doing better and looking better. Alas, instead of us being thoroughly able to enjoy her in her old days, she moved to a different zoo to be with a new buddy so they can have a good few last years together.
Species: Bat-Eared Fox (Grootoorvos of Lepelhond)
Latin name: Otocyon Megalotis
Originates from South Africa.
Current status: Least Concern

…The Bat-Eared Fox is predominantly monogamous.
…In contrast to other Canids, they have a reversal in parental roles, the males taking on the majority of parental care behavior.
…Some view Bat-Eared Foxes as an entirely different sort of species – the Otocyon – while others say it is in fact closely related to the true Foxes, of the genus Vulpes, and another group divides them into an outgroup which is not closely related to true Foxes at all.
