Description Another one from last Saturday. After a day of rain, the sun decided to come out and make up for its absence. The colours in the sky were gorgeous - isn't this an amazing planet!

I managed to keep the noise down on this one too - this was just before I ran out of space on my cf card and I'd just realised I had my iso on 800 - which on an Olympus SLR is not such a good idea!

Technical details:
- HDR from 3 exposures, using DP-HDR
- Camera: Olympus E-510; 14-42mm kit lens
- 30mm; F/9; ISO-400
- Download resolution: 1920x2560

In fact I don't know for this one. The sunset is beautiful, the colors are nice, but I have the impression that something is missing.
The colored sky at background is very nice, but the dark little cumulus clouds in front are so-so. They are right in the middle me eyes are right in this when I look the picture, but the sky behind them is far better. In fact I think that, if they weren't there, it would be nicer. Ya I know you cannot move the clouds XD but maybe different place / view of the sky with less of these dark clouds.
All the sunset you shot are quite beautiful. I think you should try to put something as a subject in front of these skys.
A dead tree or something like that.
I know that's not always easy to find a good one, but that would be so great IMO!
Great anyway.

Thank you I'm not sure I agree with you about the clouds in front... I kinda liked the contrast they gave and the layer effect (the pink clouds behind were moving one way, and the dark clouds in front the other). This probably comes out better on the other pic of this sunset .
But I think crop in this one does not bring this out very well... I was kindof forced to use this one though - this is one of the very few shots I got with ISO-400, and still enough to do HDR with. And I just loved the colours too much not to do another one of this sunset.
With regards to the foreground object, you are right. I even found some kind of big plant with yellow flowers for the foreground - but all those pics are with iso-800, and not acceptable due to noise (and movement of the plant).
I'll definitely try for next sunset though
And thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts - much appreciated!

Ah, yeah, I prefer the other picture.
Hmm yes, to have a foreground for sunsets, you may need filters, or you must shot it as a silhouette, if you see what I mean.
Try it, I wanna see that!

My pleasure.

I think this piece is really nice, and I agree with =Roses-to-Ashes , the sky is fine the way it is. But the horizon is kinda off, but other than that, it's pretty nice

Thank you! I agree as well I think, I couldn't crop anything off the top of the sky.
I toyed with straightening the horizon (I'm normally the first to get annoyed with a skewed one) but this was taken on a hill using a tripod, and the camera is level.

Oh I see The horizon doesn't look unnaturally skewed anyways, so it's all good

I have to disagree with ~stemness ..I absolutely love this whole piece.. the sky colors blend so well together... like a rainbow exploded in the sky.. in my opinion there is nothing wrong with the top half it adds flavor and texture to it.. but what do I know haha
anyway I hope you don't change a thing about this.. I really love it!!

"like a rainbow exploded in the sky" Thank you, you made my day!

I agree, I think the top part of the pic is essential, or I'd be cropping clouds in half.

lol your welcome!!!

yea would look kinda funky with half of the clouds chopped off.. somehow it makes the whole photo complete

I dunno Michiel. This one just doesn't click. Maybe I am distracted by skewing of the horizon.. then too much sky? The lower portion of the sky is indeed interesting but the upper half adds no flavor, kind of. You see what I am saying? I copied it and looked at the lower part alone and it just sounded more interesting to me!

You know I had both of those thoughts as I was editing this. But, the camera was perfectly level. It's just that this was talen on a hill, so I decided to leave it. Then I thought of the rule of thirds and realised that would mean cropping part of the top off - but the foreground isn't that interesting to me, and I didn't want top crop the top off any of these clouds, or lose the touch of blue top right.
However, the one thing I didn't look at was cropping it to landscape mode. I just had a quick look in ps and may give this a go
Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it!
