I have to say that imho I think that the foreground actually takes away from the whole. Perhaps about 1/16 on the bottom worth of foreground and the rest background would have made this much better. I love the HDRI and wouldn't mind seeing some more HDRI images that could perhaps be used as lighting sources in some 3D work. The colors would really make some 3D renders pop and come alive.
Overall great job and look forward to more of your work.

Thanks for the constructive criticism, I appreciate you taking the time out!
I've just recropped the original to as little of the foreground as possible, but it doesn't really work for me. One of the things I was trying to capture with this shot was the way the light played with the leaves in the foreground, and I would lose all that, leaving a niceish sun with mediocre sky...
I am not familiar with using photographs as lighting sources so if you have something particular in mind or would really like me to upload this pic minus foreground, let me know.
Thanks!

It's no problem. There's a lot out there on HDRI images and I'm by far not an expert on the subject. Perhaps instead of a typical downward picture, perhaps one that is from under the leaves? I'm not sure of the height of them, but it would make for an interesting shot to say the least.
Talk to you soon and thanks for the reply.

ok dont take this the wronge way..
you could try next time with a shot like the putting a little fill in flash, this would light the forground and make it a little different.

yes your right. Quite a difficult thing realy. erm...maybe if you exposed for the corn without the sky to get the right exposure then used a grad ND filter to balance the sky??

Agreed - but that would involve getting a filter first!
So this is why I did an HDR with 3 exposures for each half of the pic, and the corn looks ok on my screen? I guess some people's monitors are darker than others?
