Oh the repetition! oh the perspective! Oh! Oh oh! Now this is a beautiful shot my friend. This is gorgeous, blown out higlights, deep blacks and good shadow detail, shame it was XP2 rather than tri-x, but everything was perfect otherwise. Love the low angle. Love it.

I think it's great, well worth a fibre based print imho. (I mena my honest opinion, not humble - my opinion is not humble in the slightest )

Ooh... I like the interesting juxtaposition. Bicycles are associated with youth and vitality...
And their hard inorganic frames contrast sharply with her round, organic features.

Interesting shot Jules - like the low-down perspective. If it was me, I'd probably lighten up the bike tyre areas... but that's just me. Your shot is your shot.

I like the dark, gloomy tone of it. It's not as bright as your others. I dunno what they're talking about, it's lovely!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Exen [2007-03-21 15:39:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah Imma have to go with what a lot of other people have said, this is rather heavy on the darker tonal range, but just lighten it up, just a little bit, not much because the highlights are already there to start with and we done want way more blow outs than we already have. As for composition, nice leading lines a little crooked. Which can be fixed when printing. Over all, nice image Jules.

Dude, this is one of the best shots I have ever fucking seen from you. It could'nt be better. It's not too dark. I love the tones. I want a print of this no doubt. F1.8? F1.4? I've been seriously looking at it for 5 minutes straight. It's the shit.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vspecialk In reply to joejoesmoe [2007-03-21 19:39:28 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

joejoesmoe In reply to vspecialk [2007-03-22 05:25:01 +0000 UTC]

haha, you're right, after all, the colors are a bit pale, huh? Could use some saturation, right? It's black and white. What more do you want? How would you make it better?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vspecialk In reply to joejoesmoe [2007-03-22 09:31:26 +0000 UTC]

It's not a matter of what more do i want or how would I would make it better. You've completely ignored my question.

I simply disagree with your statemests concerning this photo and surprised by your attempts to enforce your opinions on others.

If you're that interested in my opinion, i'll only say that i'd compose it slightly different.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

MyPrivateParty In reply to vspecialk [2007-03-23 04:00:36 +0000 UTC]

But isn't that the beauty? the fact that the way I might see and choose to capture a scene could vary drastically from how you would?

Suzage In reply to MyPrivateParty [2007-04-03 21:43:05 +0000 UTC]

Jules, I think you're missing the point here. Kira was just saying that Joe shouldn't force his opinions the way he does to other slightly less enthousiastic comments. She tried to get him to see it by posing a critical question.
It's not about the photo nor taste nor opinions; it's about the way he spoke his mind. Which quite honestly bothered me too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MyPrivateParty In reply to Suzage [2007-04-03 21:56:31 +0000 UTC]

I understand. I shouldn't have butted in....

vspecialk In reply to MyPrivateParty [2007-03-23 08:16:17 +0000 UTC]

it is, but are you saying that critique regarding composition is not legitimate here, since different people compose it in a different way?

i'm not trying to dis you or this photo, after all you've submited it here for your own good reasons, and i respect that. still,i think it could be better if you'd have arranged the elemnts in a different way.it mights sound very captious to you, but it's only an opinion.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

MyPrivateParty In reply to vspecialk [2007-03-24 03:57:15 +0000 UTC]

You haven't given any critique here besides stating that you think it should be composed differently perhaps.

Im all for critique, don't get me wrong, but you haven't given any here. I would like to know what you would have done differently. I wouldn't post anything here unless I could take critique.

The only way I could have changed the elements was if I were to move them or tamper with the candid aspects of the person in the frame, also framing and angle. However, considering the style I shoot and how I aproach what I do photographically, it would not make much sense to move object or tamper with candid moments.

vspecialk In reply to MyPrivateParty [2007-03-24 09:08:58 +0000 UTC]

I would have shot if from a bit lower angle in order to include the bottom part of the bikes on the left in the frame.

Can't tell how far was the woman at the moment she appeared in your frame, but if it was possible i would have kept her as a silhouette.

pardon me for not understanding the gymmybear humor.

MyPrivateParty In reply to vspecialk [2007-03-26 02:12:54 +0000 UTC]

So, like, You would have layed on the ground? Or, I could have backed up just a bit to get the bottom portion the the bikes in.

Ah, a silhouette, may have been nice, but I like seeing her face.
