Description Such a creative title, I know.

I was working (procrastinating) on a pixel icon commission when I was suddenly was inspired to paint. So I did. I think it was nice to take a break from my usual human subjects.

It's based off of a picture I took at the Japanese Gardens in Portland, OR.

I think I'd like some critique on this one. c:

I like this very much! The orange contrasts the blue that seemingly gets deeper and emphasizes the koi. I see a vast potential in this picture.

I would first like to mention that the ripples distract and take away from the main part--the koi. I think either lowering the opacity if you have the ripples on a different layer or painting over them once more will help it slightly.

Next I would mention the source of light. The reflection on the water's surface seems too intense for the shadows it created on the fish. Possible shade the koi fish more or lessen the reflection. A slight suggestion I'd like to make is an added element on the reflection? Such as a shadow within the reflection? Not exactly sure, but the specific spot seems like an awkward negative space in comparison to the rest of your picture.

I can only give basic technique advice, so one of them would be to add some dodge layers? I'm not exactly sure what modes you can change your layers to in SAI, but there should be options for overlay or screening that always have interesting effects.

I really love the koi and I feel that you did a great job recreating it from the picture you took yourself. There isn't too much to change if you take any of my suggestions and my sound compliments to this wonderful piece! It reminds of a tranquil day that I can spend lazing by the lake in the summer. Keep up the great work!
