As a boy, Mattheus really didn't like to study like his parents wanted him to and constantly ran away from home for short periods of time to have "adventures", which he found to be much more interesting. On one of his trips away from home at the age of twelve, he got very hungry and sat outside a restaurant, since he didn't have any money to pay for food. The chef was leaving when he discovered him, and offered some soup leftover from that night's service. Mattheus fell in love with the taste and had a newfound appreciation for food, asking the chef to teach him how to cook well. The chef stubbornly refused with a laugh, but Matteus persistently visited him every once in a while. When he entered high school, he finally told his parents that he wanted to enroll in a culinary school after he graduated. His parents, glad to see that he was finally focused on his studies for once, supported him and made sure he didn't give up. For now, he works as a waiter at a local restaurant while he attends culinary school in order to improve his skills.
