Description The second installment of my Pop Culture Illustration series! Decided to do two Alex Winter films in a row and do the under-rated cult-classic FREAKED! I had a lot of fun with this one - I looked at a lot of vintage sideshow posters for inspiration. And if you haven’t seen the movie you should definitely check it out! It’s got Mr. T as a bearded lady - what more do ya need?

Love this movie!
To bad that it doesn't get that much attention apart from us lovers of weird shit stuff.

Great pick BTW!

Oh gosh this movie!! So so so hard to find
The quote "Buy more Fiddle-Faddle" is on my Skype (and somewhere else too I can't recall) and people ask me what that's from. It's hard to explain it to them because pretty much nobody knows of this movie. XD

Actually, now that I think about it Raven's one of those too...huh.

Anyway, thanks for the comment! And we should be friends on skype, if only so I can chuckle at your fiddle-faddle quote

Yeah she told me she's a fan after I drew this haha!

Oh yay I look forward to talking to you more. And oh my gosh, don't even worry about it I have SO much respect for working mothers. I could never imagine having kids of my own, so I'm so impressed by women who do!

I had never been a maternal sort of girl. But i am really digging being a mom. Plus, Celestial really loves art and i have her stuff practically wallpapering the walls and hanging from the ceiling.

I look forward to talking to you more as well. I always love forming friendships and acquaintanceships with very good artists.

Aw, that's so cute! And go you! Like I said, I'm too much of a selfish little shit to consider kids of my own but so much respect! And Celestial is such a pretty name.

Yay friendship! And sorry it took me so long to reply - I was moving out of my dorm and getting my diploma

^_^ Thanks.
My mom was pointing out how maternal Celestial is because she babies most of her toys. (I found her Samhain action figure tucked in a little make-shift bed and blanket just the other day) I asked my mom if I was maternal as a kid (because I kind of mothered my little brother) and she said no. The tone of her voice was so abrupt and matter-of-fact, I couldn't help but laugh. Apparently my toys got no motherly love from me. XD

Ooh, you got your diploma? So are you going to try to move right on into the working world?
I would love a job in art. Right now I'm a cashier at a Lowe's store. I applied for a graphic design job with the Game and Fish commission earlier today but I doubt I'll get it since my degree was in illustration, not graphic design. And that book I illustrated, I just can't imagine it getting published. Not because it's bad. Just because neither one of us have any idea about publishing a book and we have a hard time getting ahold of each other because of our respective schedules.

But hey, add me on Skype or whatever and at some point I'll try to log on :3 I think my skype name is hettybobcat. That's my username most everywhere.

OH MY GOD SO SORRY it's taken me so long to reply to your messages! I've just been ALL OVER the place lately and haven't had time to write long replies but you DESERVE long replies and OMG I'm so sorry!

Aw, that's precious! Haha I sort of got all my "maternal instincts" out because my brother came so late in the game that I was like a second mommy. Now he and I are best friends and I just don't feel the need to do it again hahaha

Yes I did! And I'm trying to hahaha - it's rough out there I know. But we have to keep trying! I hope something comes your way and fingers crossed your book gets published! I might pitch the ABC book about dogs to a publisher and see where that goes. I'm more concerned about my comic getting published.

I'll go find you on skype right now! I'm naked-sasquatch on their too

That's totallly fine. I take a million years to reply to like everything. Partly is because I am busy a lot and part of it is I open up DA and see how many comments I have to reply to and I just sigh and close it again. XD I'll eventually get around to replying to stuff and clearing it out and then I'll be away from it for a couple of days due to work and general real life stuff and I'll come back and there's a lot of things to reply to again. Not that I mind correspondence like this. This is nice. This is like a conversation.
Sometimes I get lots of weird questions or suggestions and I never know how to respond. I usually just go through and answer the majority of them with smiley faces. XD

I responded to your friend request on Skype. Maybe some time or another we can catch each other online.

The poet guy who I did those illustrations for, he decided to self publish. He found a website that prints books and he wants to try to do it that way. Which is fine by me. We had initially agreed that because neither of us know what we're doing regarding making a book, and he really couldn't afford to pay the average price an illustrator would charge, we would split profits from the book 50-50. We never had a contract though. So we finally pieced the book together. He gave me a rough manuscript and I formatted the pages and put it together and saved it as a PDF to give to the printer but I thought that before I did all that, I should probably write out a contract for us both to sign to protect us both. I mean, I did 13 full painting illustrations plus a spot illustration and he keeps expecting me to do more without pay. So I gave him an actual contract.
This book thing is so much more trouble than it's going to be worth I just know it.

Tell me about your comic.

Urgh a MONTH LATER and I see this/am able to reply to it! Uuuurgh I'm the worst! So sorry...I've got a much more mindful presence on Tumblr than dA these days. Do you have a tumblr? We should be tumblr friends.

Lovely! We need to chat sometime! I never know if you're offline or on invisible though XD

Good thinking with the contract! The absolute worst part about being an artist besides being poor is people not respecting you/thinking they can walk all over you because we ENJOY our work. Just because I like to draw doesn't mean I'll do it for peanuts! Best of luck to you, never do art for free <3

Oh my comic? Well I have some photos of spreads and the front/back covers in my gallery but it's about a hippie girl who meets and falls in love with a Sasquatch. XD

Ah, Honestly, I used to have a Tumblr. I followed a few friends on there but I deleted it. I'm a total lightweight when it comes to drama and people being mean. So I'll get on Tumblr now and then to see threads people suggest or that interest me, but I don't maintain an account. Plus, so many people get on there trying to be all Super Politically Correct Avenger that I don't even think most of them know what they're championing against.

Regarding being offline or invisible, I'm typically offline when it comes to Skype if that's what you mean. Regarding DA, I'm invisible. But I'm also pretty much always offline. I get on, do my business, and get off. When I'm on the computer I'm either drawing or playing video games.
I do want to catch you sometime and chat. I need to just make some time and just turn it on. Now that I've finally finished that book crap (hopefully it's finished *cries forever*) I'll have more me-time online.

Your comic is in your DA gallery you mean? Or on Tumblr? I'm going to go check it out. It sounds like a really humorous set-up.

I draw stupid comic strips all the time. I have like 3 different ones, actually. As I'm drawing them I can see how much EEnE has influenced my drawing style. Which isn't a bad thing. I mean, I don't want it to look like I'm drawing my comics in their style. I don't know if anyone else would catch that. To me, it's pretty glaring though. Maybe when we chat sometime I could show you what I mean and get your opinion.
