Description My most recent acrylics painting. I spent more time on it than my usual paintings....

Have fell in love with some photographs of Europe so I had to paint a pic of it.
Reference photograph used of course.
Guess which country this is?

Oh yeah, I was just wondering about textures. I know it's hard to tell from the crappy photograph(probably most visible in the sky area), but I used gesso to create texture. Anyway, does texture add to a painting or distracts from it (in general)?

thanx

I think it's Italy. The little lantern on the left reminds me very much of it. Lovely.

Well Iยดm from Germany, and this looks not german, more italian or some other kind of southern country.
German places look more like Dresden, Schloss Neuschwanstein or Munich

venice has canals...but so do some cities in Holland, and the houses look kind of dutch to me... so Holland or Italy

Very nice painting by the way!

The houses look really generic, I'm sorry to say, but the water is orgasmicly spectacular. I love it.

I'm guessing the Netherlands, but it is hard to say...

Incidentally, if you are interested in pictures of Europe, please feel free to take a look at my gallery . I currently live in Aachen, at the west end of Germany, and one of my hobbies is taking pictures of all the beautiful buildings around here - and I have uploaded quite a few of these pictures, with lots more to come in the future...

Wow...I was looking at this small at first, and I totally couldn't tell it wasn't a photograph. Amazing job, and the texturing, especially the reflections on the water, makes it look incredibly real.

You're a very talented artist in general; I'm amazed at how many media you can use, and use well!

I think it's Italy. I love the reflections in the water, you did a really cool job! I think texture adds to a painting by making it more interesting to the eye, I mean, it's possible to make it too distracting but by then it would probably be pretty obvious.

no way! The texture definitely adds to this painting! I just can't imagine it without some phatty texture
but seriously, I personally like to add as much texture as possible. As thick as arcylic paints can be, I like to add some real intense texture with my handy dandy glue gun!
And just out of curiosity, how big is this painting in real life?
all in all... so bautiful *sigh*
it reallly feels like I can just walk right in...
and the reflection of the buldings on the water... AMAZING.

Painting is such a nice break from anime/cg sometimes, and vice versa ^^

It's really pretty! If you asked me, I'd say the texture adds to it. It gives it a feeling, of, I don't know.. A different place super-imposed on this place.... Or something like that. *confuses herself* Anyway, is lovely!

Makes me think of Venice. ^o^ I love your textures, and in general, I think it adds to a painting. But if there's too much, it takes away (like all things). It looks less flat with texture, but somethings should have some, and some not any. For a lot of the stuff you paint, I like your textures and brush strokes. ^^

I really love your acrylic work, and the water reflection. +fave
