Description This is symbolic Saint Valentine, rarely portrayed as a young man. Here, he is seen caressing his greatest love-the Cross of Christ. In his left hand, he is holding a glass heart-representing his affection for God, His Church and all of God's people, and the little, primitive doll upside down represents his rejection of false idols and gods.

And thank you to the handsome Yeinier for allowing me to use his likeness!

Badass. I love the alternate approach to the look of it.

Thanks! That was certainly what I was going for-a more modern, yet classic, yet human, yet fantasy feel.

His eyes are gorgeous. I dig the white highlights on his skin, especially on his nose.

Thank you! This is my friend Yeinier(check the comments on this one to see him and check out his photography of himself, is great work). He has a face with much character, so I knew he'd be an interesting young take on St. Valentine, who is usually portrayed in his advanced years.

Okay. I'm a married woman, a married woman, a married woman....and he's a saint. Phew!

I think you made him more handsome than the original Yeinier, frankly.

I'm a married woman..........(takes deep breath)

ROFL Meezer! I didn't realize that any of the male artworks I would do would create crushes! (giggle) And I'll bet that Yeinier is most flattered too.
Don't worry Kat, I am sure St. Valentine is flattered as well.
P.s. And, I'll bet your husband is still a winner.
Thanks for your 'warm' reaction! lol

Hehe he IS handsome. And I admit, that little doll thing was kind of scary at first, but it fits very well. Young saints are enthralling, I think.

I do too! I mean, he did live much longer and was not a saint who died young, but I thought it would be fun to see his young, dedicated time frame. Saints are the coolest. Thanks for the kudos.

*reads description* AAAAAAAAAAH. Ok the little doll is no longer creepy. When I first looked I thought it was some sort of Valentine voodoo

Very well done I must say.

Right, that little doll is a little creepy, isn't it?
And no voodoo in the V-man's spectrum of interest-to be sure.
I read that some believe the Romans had a mid-February custom where boys drew the names of girls in honor of a sex and fertility goddess. And pastors β€œbaptised” this holiday, like some others, by substituting the names of saints such as Valentine to suppress the practice.
Since some people typically place symbols upside down if they are against them, I thought it could work for him and what he stood for.
Thanks for your kind words Morrah!

That happened a lot when the Catholic priests came to convert people. Oftentimes they would take the Pagan holidays and find a saint to put on top of it. Kind of a compromise between the two. That's why the Catholic religion is also very different in different countries. Mainly among the smaller poorer countries.

Neat idea of yours though. Very well thought out.

This Saint Valentine is very, very handsome. I like how he only has eyes for Christ. Those ones make the best suitors!

Yup! Well said my friend.
Most people are used to seeing images of St. Valentine older and in his vestments, which I like also. However, because people are so far removed from any information of the actual individual, I wanted to remind them that he was once a young person, like all of us, and most likely, no less passionate for his cause.

Oh I do hope so Merc, because I have such respect for all they have done, and how they lived their lives.
I will most likely make a St. Patrick some St. Patty's day too. ^_^
