The legendary public "Pirate King" who started off the current Golden Age of Piracy and the posthumous captain of the now disbanded Roger Pirates. Gol D. Roger was born to Gol D. Silva- a repulsive World Noble who just so happened to be a direct descendant of one of the World Nobles that founded the World Government- Gol D. Platinum as well as a powerful Haki user and user of the Logia Fruit of Metal- the Iron-Iron Fruit and a kind woman who truly inherited the Will of D. Roger, surprisingly was groomed from a young age to a Marine that would obey the corrupt orders of the World Nobles but his mother taught him about human decency- so Silva killed her right in front of him due to her "coddling" him- leading to Roger having a deep loathing of Devil Fruits and the Government as a whole. Silva was killed by Rocks D. Xebec- a victim whom Silva had caused much suffering including killing Xebec's childhood friends and just a moment before his ultimate demise- another of Xebec's childhood friends, Zeff's first lover who was pregnant with child- using Zeff's- lead Xebec to eat the Chaos-Chaos Fruit to kill Silva as its first victim. Roger used the chaos to go off to sea as a Pirate, taking Silvers Rayleigh, another victim of Silva's pointless cruelty, on a small ship- building a crew and reputation. Imu through the World Elders, had Rogers become a member of one of the Warlords at the time, using the Pirate's vendetta against Devil Fruit users to purge them while the W.G. would take advantage to subjugate the islands he visited. After the God's Valley Incident, he met Portgas D. Rouge, who had the Gum-Gum Fruit at the time, convincing him the error of his ways, causing Roger to cast aside his Warlord status to become the infamous Pirate the world knows about- though the evils of his past as a Warlord lingered on- with notable victims including Squard. He would eventually find ONE PIECE- or so it seemed and became the Pirate King before his untimely disease began to take his life- leading to his execution at his hometown of Logue Town. However, the truth of the matter was that a Mask-Mask user set up by the W.G. to say his "final words" in order to get unwitting pawns to find the ONE PIECE for the W.G. while the real Roger was converted into a Pacifista to personally slaughter his own former crew against his will until Rocks D. Muffy put him down before he could kill Shanks as well.

Roger was a rough but friendly kid in his youth until Silva killed Roger's mother in front of him- leading to the young man having a masked smile that hid his bitterness and loathing of the status quo and that of Devil Fruit users as a whole- subconsciously viewing his crew as pawns to get back at the World Elders in order to conquer the world using his Warlord status. After the God's Valley incident, he took a significant change of character- leading to the more iconic personality that the world knows him as- Fearless, a refusal to run from battle in order to protect his crew, a man who loved big, flashy things and reveled in his title of Pirate King despite his oncoming death. He could be a merciless enemy when he got angry- willing to kill entire armies if they insulted his friends- though this trait lessened after the God's Valley incident- using Conqueror's Haki or display of power to ward off enemies. Roger was very quick to anger, and he would retaliate for something as simple as an insult to his crew, regardless of how small it might be. An angry Roger could be a violent, selfish, and short-tempered man, but his actions had been pure and straight, just like a child's, and he was lucky to survive and become the Pirate King despite his extremely reckless nature. He also had a side to him that mocked his enemies. After defeating a group of Marines, he told them to bring Garp or Sengoku while telling the Marines he just defeated that they were not worth his time. He did get excited when he got the opportunity to face strong enemies. Despite his prideful and aggressive nature, Roger was a considerably humble man, more than happy to tell others of his dreams, and would socialize with his rivals with great enthusiasm. In addition, he was considerate towards civilians and forbade his crew from stealing from them- a stark change from his ruthless days as a Warlord lapdog that was on the same level as Doflamingo and Crocodile's cruelty to get to his ultimate goals. He also had a soft spot for children. He also believed a newborn child should not be responsible for the sins of their parents- believing that Ace shouldn't suffer for Roger's own crimes. Sadly, he was unaware that he had a daughter as well- Portgas D. Anne who survived- with Roger as a Pacifista being forced to kill his own lover. In spite of the rumors that he slept around with several women, he only had eyes for Portgas D. Rouge.

He makes up for his lack of Devil Fruit with his Ruler level Ambition Haki to combat top tier Devil Fruit users- having the Observation Ruler Variant: All-Sight to sense everything including past/present/future of all things/Voice of All Things to hear the voices of all things with the potential to telepathically communicate with others, Conqueror Ruler Variant: World Haki that generates a pocket dimension based on one’s dream and be manipulated to attack enemies and battle other World Haki users, and his own Armament Ruler Regalia: Freedom King which while active allows the user to be immune to control techniques, diseases, laws, limitations of the mind, consequences, powers, etc- being free to do whatever he desires. He also fights with one of the 12 Supreme Grade Meito- Ace, which is a Light Nature Haki affinity sword that is able to harm Angels, Devils, and Gods by bypassing their normal defenses. If it weren't for his disease that limited him to being below El D. Orado in terms of power, he would easily get into the top 12 of the Pirate Kings- if a bit low on the totem pole of power.
