I actually think that the Death Star isn't really a practical weapon. Β It costs quintillions of credits to build and does further quintillions of dollars of economic damage with every planet it destroys whereas Star Destroys could put down rebellions without destroying economic centers. Β It does give the Empire a massive intimidation factor since the Tarkin Doctrine states rule not by force but by threat of force. Β Ironically, the destruction of Alderaan (or however you spell that planet) may have sealed the Empire's fate. Β Neutral worlds joined the Rebel Alliance, fledgling rebellions on other worlds were given more incentive to grow, thousands of Alderaan ex-pats joined the Rebel Alliance, and the Rebel Alliance itself was united by an atrocity to rally around.
By the way, I think the world of Cars and Planes are one in the same.
One last thing, while the Expanded Universe was officially taken out of cannon, I will continue to use the information as long as cannon sources do not directly contradict it.

If I remember correctly, Darth Vader said the Emperor disbanded the senate, because they will control the galaxy with the Death Star from now on.

You want to talk illogical weapons? Sora uses a pole attached to a sword handle called a Keyblade even though it doesn't actually have a blade on it and must weigh, like, a ton considering it's just a huge solid metal rod, and which also has a completely pointless double-sided guard that would probably just make it harder to wield.

Actually, a crossover with the Star Wars universe might work out pretty well. Β Sure there's the keyblade vs light saber awesomeness, (oh wow, that's an actual word) the Light side/dark side aspects of the Force would translate well in the KH universe. Β
And Sora would help Luke unlock the light in Vader's heart! Β
