Description This started as a little experiment, but I decided to complete it. That's why it's just about A5.
But I think it turned out quite well.

Hey - I think that this is a fantastic painting and therefore I am trying to advance my skills by painting basically your Blue Planet.

So I have some questions:
Other than you I'm using acrylics to paint this but still I cannot understand how do you make the land on the planet to fade in with the ground - on my painting it's a bit like separate from the ground, like it has been gummed/glued on the planet and seems weird.
Other thing is the dark part of the planet: how you did you blend the dark part and the light part together?
For me it's again like two separate things.

I would be helpful for the tips.

Sincerely, Tormi.

Thanks a lot for faving
I'm very happy you like it that much.

Actually, I painted this a year ago, so Ihope I remember how I did it.
You've already noticed that I used watercolour and as far as I know acrylics behave totally different.
-generally, I used a lot of opaque white (I think this isn't very important when using acrylics)
-I grounded the planet in a darker blue and blurred it with a wet brush (I already experienced myself that you can't blur colours that easy using acrylics) this generally works better with a bristle brush.
-Then I painted a lighter blue layer on the left side of the planet and blurred it again; finally a white layer (If you can't blur it that easy you should just paint more and finer shaded layers)
-I think when I painted the land the ocean was still wet, so the edges didn't get to sharp
-Here I also used several colours on the same brush (just dip the brush with its different sides in different colours) so I got detailed coincidental textures
-on the edge I again blurred the land to the dark side of the planet
-let it dry...
-finally I painted the clouds and the lights on the night side with rather dry colours

Perhaps your land doesn't fit on the planet because of the colours. I think it's very important that you don't use too loud colours but colours that are related. You could reach this if you mix some of the blue for the ocean into the brown of the land, so the colours lie closer together.

I hope there's something in the explanation you can use.

PS: I would be very interested in your results, so please inform me if you post your picture.

PPS: Excuse my bad English XD

Interesting work but I have some suggestion to make it even better!

First : You should try to read about the composition. For example, the law of thirds could really help you

Second about the technic, here some suggestion : Most of people dont think that they can mix different medias. For example, you DO can use dry pastel to make the atmosphere around the earth. You can also use airbrush. Even watercolor (Put water on your work and use dilued paint to create a nebula)

Also, to create stars, use an old tooth brush and "splash" your art! You'll see, it is magic!

Wow, very impressive! You usually see these sorts of things done digitally so it's a treat to see it done traditionally. You've done a great job with the detail, but I also like how you have used a paint splatter effect for the stars - it works really well.

I think I'll go on with the traditional spaceart. It doesn't always have to be photoshop.
