Excellent shot!Β
Can I ask, what settings did you use to shoot this? I'm struggling getting sharp photos of my cats running about outside, cant get the hang of it just yet...

Hi. I shoot full manual control so i set shutter speed, apeture and iso manaually.
for action shots you need a fast shutter speed to freeze action. The usual guideline is a shutter speed that at least ,agches the focal length of your lens (e.g 1/500s for a 500mm lens), but the faster the better.
Getting a fast shutter speed is dependant on how much light there is. You generally need use the widest aperture your lens supports (eg f4) to allow as much light in as possible.Β
To further increase the amount of light getting to the cameras sensor you also need to open up the iso to somthung higher, altoug thenhigher you go the more noise you get in the image.
This shot was at 400mm, f4, ISO6400 and shutter of 1/650 i think. It was at dawn so very low light.
you should note however that i only get away with ISO6400 because i use a nikon d4s which has incredible noise control. Β its also a very powerful and fast camera that shoots 11fps, and has lightning quick autofocus.
however for dogs you dont need anything as powerful for side running action. Running towards the camera is another issue and that solely comes down to how quick the camera can track.
you will also need to shoot at a continuous fps and take numerous shots in sequence. Just firing a single shot wont get you anywhere.
What camera and lens are you using?
please feel free to like my fb page and drop ,e any messages on here. Ill be happy to help.
