I like the way you've analysed the way a creeper works although personally I would have said how they were a mutated version of a pig (a bit if mincraft creation history for you) and during the experiment gunpowder was used to try and make it stand up no other powder would have worked. Shortly after they realized that certain bones would click together when they are happy (usually around players). Also the scientists who created the creeper tried to give it some sound and failing but still leaving the music discs inside.
