Wow I think he is a protector the last of its kind, when he falls, the vine entangled city of rock and stone will be left to the chances of fate.

of course! i would actually submit it as new deviation, rather than change it. do you have any suggestions for a background? i'll be sure to credit you.

(when i said it breaks the feeling i thought of that it's not also drawn as the figure is and yet i still don't know whether it's the basic problem or not)
what i'd think of is something itself old-like but abstract enough to be "only" a background
maybe something brownish (isn't it an old and worn color?)
maybe like this one [link]

i get ya. a photo background may not work at all, but i have a few ideas. a photo of a junkyard with a matching perspective, and a texture overlay that matches the paper it was drawn on?

conatgion In reply to nicktheartisticfreak [2007-11-11 09:51:04 +0000 UTC]

the texture is a great idea to convert a photo into something less photo-like but i'd still choose something more abstract because a junkyard appears to me to be somewhat a chlisΓ©
it's the obvious choice but that's why it's not that interesting you know

it abviously looks unfinished. i do not see any connection between sky and the robot. since the sky is blue i exect to see some blue on robot's exterior. the ground looks fine even though i do not see any showdows. it is also hard to establish the light source. you use too much whites for hightlights. try more setteling colors. otherwise i love the structure of the robot.

thanks for taking the time to critique, i really do appreciate it.
you're right that the bg and the robot don't jive. nasty habit i have. i like the contrast though, like the robot isn't really there, he just thinks he is. but i will work on my light sourcing. thanks for pointing it out
