I'm pretty much at my limit with the small scope; with a C8 or bigger I could probably try resolving the Trapezium Cluster at a higher resolution

With a C8, you definitely would need guiding. The focal length would be too big for 120 x 2s or 240 x 1s. And well, f/10 means you won't see anything with a 2s exposure anyway

At least that's what I suspect.


Maybe a RC or a Newton with 8-12 inches (1000 mm -1400 mm) would do the job

Maybe, I just start going for wide field shots with a medium sized fast scope

I also doubt that I'll have good seeing conditions often enough to image anything at that resolution
