A very hopeful pic in my mind - ready to go, expression of departure (don't ask me where) and the colors are also adding to this feeling -- the somehow greyish top makes it unclear where the journey will end... and how....
I think there's no problem with the bird in the middle, it is the most important symbol in the picture so it's right to focus on it.

Dead on perfect shot. I love it.

As for the bird being in the middle...Its right where it needs to be. Sometimes you need a lead into a picture, but for this, it just isn't the case. The muted colors add to the mood in such a great way.

I am in awe.

Photos without manipulation tend to interest me more. You have to be sort of creative and work with what's there.

BlueHalios [2004-12-06 17:54:14 +0000 UTC]

nice and clean, i really like the shape of the bird on this one, its in a very unique pose you must have quick fingers to catch such a beautiful shot.

i do agree though that the bird might be a bit more centralised then necisary, but i see no better place for it to be, so that cant be helped.

i think you should use this bird as your avatar, its just that cool of a form.

Added to devwatch.

Sometimes editors do help, especially when you really need to improve the quality of an underexposed photo or something like this, but most photographers end up with cropping their photos in a most terrible way leaving only 25% of the original caption, I think it is wrong... Then how can they call themselves photographers if they only know how to do the trick in some fancy software?
I do crop, quite often, but I also am trying to compose my shots in a way that excludes the need to crop or edit. That's what photography is.

Oh, so beautiful! The main object is in the middle and it's a bit grainy, but the bird really compensates that...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nihilist1 In reply to aqueous-thing [2004-12-04 12:58:36 +0000 UTC]

What's wrong with main object being in the middle?
Grain is technically not my fault, buy me a better camera

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

aqueous-thing In reply to nihilist1 [2004-12-04 13:03:37 +0000 UTC]

It can look a bit plain. (In my opinion). It looks deeper with the main subject somewhere else.. Better for the viewer, you're led into the picture.
Lower ISO? Nightshot maybe?
But don't misunderstand me, it's really an amazing photo..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nihilist1 In reply to aqueous-thing [2004-12-04 13:11:20 +0000 UTC]

Emm do you really see it with main subject being somewhere else? Trees make the lower part look somewhat heavier that moves the accent there, the bird is on a main diagonal which attracts the eye, but theres an illusion that it's a bit lower on the shot, just because the sky is clear and black branches make a great contrast with it, donchathink?

That was ISO100 you see? Lower is only iso50 and it usually does not help. My camera has a cheap matrix.
