Description I've teamed up with Grace to create a ghost oryx... inspired by nostalgic talk and looking at our old works, lol.
Looks like we are really old art friends. Blast from the past! The only "positive" thing I remember 10 years ago is that I used to really enjoy drawing. Now, not anymore.
Grace did lineart and design, and I did the whole colouring.

You don't enjoy drawing anymore? I must ask why you do it, if it doesn't make you happy. It is a sad thought, not to see your wonderful works, but maybe focus on something that makes you truly happy?

Two reasons: for living, is a hectic job. And I have that very tiny percentage that I can enjoy, for very creative projects.

That's a shame. And yeah, it can be very hectic. I hope you can find time for only the most creative projects you love!

oh wow does this piece bring back memories!! haha i never thought i would see Enki again i see those signature flames !! i like the updated look with the more intricate markings, ghostly eye and tail in contrast to the first simpler design its real interesting seeing your arts and how it has progressed from when i first followed about 10 yrs ago. art really does reflect what the creator feels at the time, i can tell that the color scheme changed as art became your job, i saw more darker colors and somber tones as opposed to the bright fun colors dominated your early stuff. i look back on some of my art as well and i see more darker themes when i was in college. I really hope art can be fun again soon!! dont give up u can do it!! <3

I love how bright colors of the Fire, eyes and scarf contradict the gray background. It really draws the attention to magnificent creature! Very good job! You are a truly gifted artist, by the way. Β

Cool creature! I love the stylized purple smoke/flames. Also, the glowing eye.
I don't know why you no longer enjoy drawing (none of my business) but it's sad that you don't, because you are so, so good at it.
I know you didn't draw this, only colored it (which is no less impressive because damn...it's freaking amazing!), but the rest of your gallery speaks for itself.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NovaEden In reply to Crysomandiaz [2017-05-16 15:54:25 +0000 UTC]

I've lost that feeling of enjoyment since 2011 I think, when my art became "work" thing intensively. It became strongly "obligation" that I have to go through to make for living, to survive. Because of that emotional background that I struggled with my art to live, stress and make it enough professional, following the client's norms has totally killed the feeling of freedom and enjoyment. Art is something "i have to do".
Though I can feel that feeling of enjoyment only with my really personal art and when there is zero pressure. Also I feel it when I travel, sketch what I see from real world - though it's mostly ugly, unfinished stuff.
I am kind of "forced" to draw for living as it's my currently only main source and constantly updating my portfolio as part of investment, but I am really hoping I can work out a way in the future I don't have to work on art for living, have a different "main career" thing and art would be as hobby - things would have been better, I believe. I am contemplating to run patreon thing to help my connection with art.

Crysomandiaz In reply to NovaEden [2017-05-16 15:57:53 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that makes perfect sense, sad as it is. You actually make a living from your art, what many dream about, but it sucks the joy out of it... I really think you should try Patreon. I don't know if it will make you less stressed, since you also have to make art, but maybe it will be more free, because you don't have to draw specific subjects? I hope you find a way out and will get the inspiration and love of drawing back.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NovaEden In reply to Crysomandiaz [2017-05-16 16:18:35 +0000 UTC]

Which isn't fun, really. Very much like every average job, but it's very unstable and stressful. Plus, I can only work partially as artist because I cannot sit behind the computer all day due to certain health issue - which makes me slow at creating art. In general I am fast in drawing but I'm limited with time.
There are some people who enjoy that lifestyle and can live being locked in four walls and sit behind the desk for all days.Β
But yeah, in general the rule is once a thing becomes job, that enjoyment is naturally decreased. During old times it was when I was at high school, teen times so art was "side" thing for me while I had school to focus. That's why I enjoyed it

I have a very cool idea project to run on Patreon which is certain mixture creating with activities that will keep me healthy and I hope to inspire other artists because I also believe it's very healthy way to do that, but I am a bit terrified to start it. It's not that easy as it sounds apparently.

I know a few ppl that love their job, their job is their hobby. I really envy them. The rest of us just have to find some kind of balance and not go crazy in this modern world.Β
I would love to see what project you have in mind. I support a few ppl on Patreon, and I think you have to find reasonable reward levels and just start small

Patreon I'd say would be a massive boost. You'd be getting paid by artists and appreciators to see your "gallery" and artistic life.
Top it off with the motivation to show your determination for creating a solid portfolio and your travels, I'd say yours would work really well.
Also, if you're feeling burned out with drawing, why not go ahead with making a living off of photography for a while?
The shots you show on your account are absolutely breathtaking, and you could meet up with all kinds of artists through it.

NovaEden In reply to Krovalor [2017-05-17 07:17:54 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for encouraging. Patreon seems to be absolutely fantastic and perfect for my long-term idea that I want to realize for everyone, but at the end, that thing isn't easy as it looks. I did a lot of research and readings, actually it's pretty hard to get any support so.
Photography is extremely hard to make any money, just anything for living, nearly impossible unless you really can break out from the system. The reason is pretty obvious - there is way too many photographers around and basically "just anyone" can take pictures, the world is just exploding with photograph material. The value of photographs has dropped down. Most companies and people are able to hook up photographers for free who basically can do OK pictures. And the companies who care about quality a lot, which are fewer of them, have their own teams of photographers and are very unwillingly to get new folks.Β
I know a guy who is just wow at photography and a lot of experience, he has quit photography because he made too little money from it, no one wanted to buy his (extremely good!) photographs. Market with is has broke down.
If anything, you can earn on regular weddings which is a thing I'd never want to do.

Thanks :]
