Description The final piece all put together into one image featuring Keabora(mother), Shiroko(son), and Jiu(father). Gao reminded me that this has been in the works since 11', so it feels great to step back and view it as a whole.

They came up with the amazing idea of meshing these three images and I'm glad to have had the honor of bringing their characters to life visually. Gao has treated me to snippets of their story and it sounds amazing. They're incredibly patient and gave me tips along the way creating each image. Without them it probably would not have ended up as satisfying. Thanks for being an awesome client, Gao!

Wow that long in the making?! Must have been hard to try and keep the style consistent as your techniques changed, as they do

Yeah, it was a fairly slow process, more because of me than anything haha. And I tried to keep things in line by comparing then and now to be sure there wasn't so much of a jump between styles. c:

Was it the middle one?

i remember having seen the mother finished a while back which was one of the reasons as to why i followed your artwork. the image looks well balanced and characteristics in the clothing show that they all belong with each other. the two spheres of energy remind of the ying yang symbol which is another way to show the balance of the piece. one thing i really like is the seemless blend of the snow and the floor. that interaction is a nice touch. a job well done in my opinion.

The entire composition was designed around a yin/yang model at many levels, both physically, in color composition, in motion, and symbolically. So I'm glad you picked up on that. Poor tachit had to deal with my nit-picky self to get the composition to fit my blueprint for it. Even the gazes of the parents work into it, with the mother looking down, not only at her books, but also in the direction the energy balls are moving, and as the father looks at the sky, his gaze too is lifted in the direction of the ball's movement. The colors of the energy tie into the dominant colors present in the opposite parent's frame as well. All to indicate the swirl of forces surrounding the son and the destruction centered on him. Tachit did a fabulous job and I couldn't be more pleased If I ever do get around to writing those books out I've dreamed of using them in the covers.

This looks incredible! I love this, the details on this are breath taking. The white fox and his (?) background would be my favorite part of this picture if i had to chose but still like i said before the detail in this are amazing. It looks like i could just reach in and grab one of the books on the book shelf or touch one of the foxes' fur. This is truly in incredible.

Btw you mentioned that these three were part of a story. what story do they belong to?

gaoyuqing In reply to wolfmoon24 [2013-01-18 19:23:04 +0000 UTC]

Well there are multiple stories planned for the series. While I have them grouped as individual books in my head, if they get too long I may split them up.
One (tentatively titled β€œThe House of Raven”) was intended to be an introduction to the world via a β€œtypical” accidental translation of a human from our world to the Kitsune world and follows him through his adventures, introducing various characters and lays out the framework of that world through an invading army of β€œmonsters,” a home-grown variety of monster, and his own choices and self-realization. (there are also an intro to a small group of human-type characters that have their own trilogy that I’m currently focused on finishing: Born to Bondage, Born to Betrayal and Born to the Blood) The rest of the books are prequels to this book.
The rest stay focused on Kitsune characters. Titles are tentative:
Born to Battle focuses on the life of the greatest warrior of the current age Markus and his story. It’s rather a tragedy/romance tale.
Born to Power focuses on the 3 greatest mages of the current age, Kaebora, Jiu and their son Shiroko, told from the POV of Kaebora in a form of memoir. These are the 3 characters shown above. This is a bit of a tragedy itself too.
Many of their tales end/reach their culmination in The House of Raven, tying all the books together.
You can see many of the characters from the books I’m working on in my favorites. I like to commission portraits of my brain children

These are vulpines, not wolves. But luckily I don't get swamped with them as often as some artists. I get stuff like dragons/winged creatures and other misc. critters from time to time to mix it up. Though yes, a good bulk of my gallery is canines.

A lot of the commission work that comes my way involves canine based characters. I actually draw a lot of non canine based stuff that doesn't get posted here on DA (including humans, studies ect. haha.) But I won't turn down a commission because it is canine based either, that would be pure imprudence on my part. Maybe I'll throw up some of my other work sometime.
