Description During leopard tracking drive, Okonjima, Namibia 2010.

So this, like the title says, is a young male kudu. There was at least one other male and two females. You can tell he is young by his horns - they're quite short and are still growing.
Kudus have this technique of getting through the tree branches without getting stuck: the bend their head backwards so that their horns don't get caught in branches and the sort. Also notice how he's turned 180 degrees and just staring straight at us!
It was amazing that he didn't run away! I find Kudus to be among the most regal looking antilopes.
The latin name for Greater Kudu is: Tragelaphus strepsiceros

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THE FAV'S !!

Amazing shot. I'm a sucker for anything with such wonderfully large ears. Beautiful antelope, and wonderful eye contact, really makes this photograph pop out at you.

thanx! his ears really are beautiful!! and its funny how they just stare at you - giraffes and zebras do it too.
I just wish I hadn't cut off his legs at the bottom of the photo...

Oh yeah, I hate it when I take a photo and have just missed the tip of a limb somewhere, I'm actually really bad at doing that with ears. Although I didn't really notice his lacking legs, I think it's far enough away from the main focus of the photo for you to get away with it just fine.

yes we were - especially cos we were close and he didn't run away.
Of course when the car engine was turned back on they all ran away through the bushes and trees.
