Description I am still feeling a lot of feelings about Les Mis... both from the movie and from seeing the stage production again last week (it's been almost 12 years since the last time!).

Also it snowed a bunch this weekend, so somehow that resulted in me drawing select members of the Friends of the ABC (+ bonus Eponine and Gavroche) playing in the snow. The characters are attempted caricatures of the movie cast, and I tried to reflect their personalities from the novel in their poses. But apologies if I mixed anybody up - even after the second viewing of the film I was still a little fuzzy on who was who with Joly, Feuilly, and Jean Prouvaire. I blame the cuts to "Drink With Me" and the lack of solos in "Do You Hear the People Sing," as I usually depend on those songs for student identification.

roughly left to right -
Joly has a cold, naturally.
Grantaire is too hung over for this.
Feuilly is building the snow fort like a hardworking craftsman.
Enjolras is presiding over said snow fort and waiting for everyone to quit goofing off and practice maneuvers with a snowball fight for freedom.
Jean Prouvaire is friends with that bird.
Combeferre is studying the crystalline structure of snowflakes.
Gavroche is so ready for that snowball fight.
Courfeyrac would like you to know that he has named his beautiful snow sculpture "Snowsette".
Marius is wondering why he is even friends with Courfeyrac (Dear Marius, it's probably because Courfeyrac gave you a place to live and found you a job when you ran away from home at 17, but anyway...).
And Eponine is trying to distract Marius so that Gavroche can get a clean shot at his head with that snowball. Or possibly just flirting.

I really needed to comment just because I saw that Joly and felt like that was maybe the most accurate thing I've ever seen. This is fabulous (:

Thank you, glad you like it! It's hard (if not impossible?) to pick favorites among the barricade boys, but I've definitely got a soft spot for Joly.

Late comment is late.

OMG Joly. That is my first response. But he's a dedicated little barricade boy and is out there even though he knows he's in his death throes!

And Grantaire's flask is R. I love it.

Enjolras is like YOU GUYS YOU PROMISED but no one wants to do maneuvers. He is not please. NOT PLEASED AT ALL. So in character, haha.

Courfeyrac are you feeling up snowsette omg that's her boob I am scandalized as well as Marius. All of those were truefax, Courfeyrac regrets nothing, Marius regrets everything. Eponine is like 'you could feel me up." Wow. About that... No.

I also adore that Jehan is a Disney Princess.

Wow, you did such a great job getting everyone in character and into the picture, and an awesome job doing them up movie style! I'm sure you had a great time getting ref pics for this... ehehehe. Once again, gorgeous snow!

Your comments are never late. (nor are they early? they arrive precisely when they mean to?)

I had so so much fun making this and I'm really happy that you like it. True story, Jean Prouvaire is a disney princess, and Courfeyrac is a scandal. I think those two may have turned out the best, though I'm pretty fond of how Gavroche looks too.

Re: Ref pics - it was for ART.

Aaaaand then I read the artist’s description and realise that basically what I did in that last comment was repeat everything you said in the description. Well.

Snowsette needs a bigger role in this musical. Also, I really, really love your title, just BTW…

I know this is probably useless info, but hey, I’m gonna go for it anyway:
Joly’s the one who says “What’s wrong, Marius, you look like you’ve seen a ghost?” and is also the one who’s smoking a pipe whilst laughing strangely, leading people to wonder: what exactly is in that pipe of yours and is it even legal?
Prouvare is the one that seems to be trying to rock a sort of… jaw!beard? I don’t know.
Feuilly’s the one that looks oddly like Michael Fassbender.

Lol, I actually feel pretty gratified that you were able to identify so many of the students without the description!

When I started planning this, the first thing I said was "Courfeyrac would build a snowman, but actually probably a curvy snow lady." The bonnet and the name came along later.

I did figure out who Joly was, but I think it was probably more the internet telling me than me knowing his lines. The piano/vocal book was helpful for figuring out who sings what, but not every song is there. And over the years I just had a weird backwards association with what people looked like in the 10th anniversary concert to lines I knew went with certain students, but if the camera wasn't zoomed in for a line, pfft, no idea. Yesssss, glad I seem to have gotten Feuilly and Jean Prouvaire's hair colors right at least! I feel a little bad for the guy cast as Feuilly in the movie - I mean, that's not a bad supporting part in the stage show with the nice solos in Do You Hear the People Sing and Drink With Me. Movie? No. Sad.

Haha, yeah, that's pretty much how I puzzle out who's who as well. Trouble is, as you say, if you can't see who's singing, you're in trouble.

On a related note, did you spot Gina Beck in the movie? I knew she was going to be in the 25th concert but couldn't spot her. Then I watched the movie and thought, "Hey, that Turning Lady looks an awful lot like Gina -- no, stop it, you're seeing things. Not being able to spot her in 25 is getting to you." Then I went home and googled it and hey, so it is!

I don't think I've ever seen Gina Beck without either her Glinda wig or her Christine wig, so I probably wouldn't recognize her! But now that I know she's there I will try to look for her. (Also, holy cow her Christine is so good, I think I like her more than Sierra Boggess *ducks more stones from phans*.) I saw on imdb that Katie Hall is supposed to be one of the Turning soloists too, but I didn't pick her out either, so, bad job to me. I was also excited to see that Kerry Ellis (Broadway Elphaba during Aaron Tveit's run as Fiyero) is somewhere in the Master of the House ensemble, but I was really sad she didn't get to be in any of the cafe or barricade scenes!

Ooh, I didn't notice Katie Hall - but you get a pretty good, long close-up shot of Gina (otherwise I certainly wouldn't have noticed her!) She's either the last or second last to sing, if I remember correctly.

Oh, I am definitely agreeing with you there. Lots! She's hands down my absolute favourite all-round Christine (she may not be my favourite vocally, but if I had to pick a dreamcast, she'd be my first choice for Christine). She looks and sounds the part, but, best of all, she acts the part like nobody's business.

I enjoy how the Les Mis movie ends up being a who's who of the West End in the supporting parts. I think I fell out of my chair laughing when looking at the cast list because I didn't know Hadley Fraser under that moustache.

So, I prefer a very sweet voiced Christine. Gina Beck, from the clips I've seen around the internets, seems to have the right balance of power and ingenue delicacy that just lights the part right up. Sierra (gorgeous talented girl. omg I saw her as Ariel during my one trip to NYC and she was amazing!) just plays it a bit too full blown diva for me. However, she has beautiful chemistry with both her leading men in 25th anniversary Phantom (though really, probably not hard to have good chemistry with those two!)

Things I love: Oh Joly, you adorable little hypochondriac, you! ^^, Courfeyrac and Gavroche being best bros/partners in crime/hilarious (can we just talk about how adorable their ‘best bros’ thing was in the movie, oh my goodness). Combeferre’s being the scientific, adorable, intelligent little bugger that he is! Enjolras still has a barricade fixation, regardless of what he’s building it out of. Marius looks like he’s suddenly realised he’s left the stove on at home. Éponine’s adorable little face.

I love how it’s movie-verse, but… not quite. It’s like they’re 90% movie-verse, 10% original imagination and you have no idea how perfect that mix/proportion is. It’s the best mix possible, honest.

I had way way too much fun with this.

I loooooved Courfeyrac and Gavroche being BFFs in the movie. Every version of the stage show I've seen seems to have Gavroche buddying around with a different character: the first time I saw it (a hundred years ago) he hung around Eponine a lot, the second time Enjolras (and the actors playing Enjolras and Gavroche were actually father and son, which was a bit weird, but adorable!), and last week's show was Gavroche and Grantaire. But I really liked having that extra bit of characterization for Courfeyrac in the movie, as he is one to take in strays.
