I learned that the creative team of Interstellar used the equations and numbers that make up a black hole to visually build the black hole in the film and it blew my fucking mind. They didn't do concept art or anything of that nature, they went to a scientist, got all the equations, and put the numbers into their computers and that's what they got.

Yeah! It's some pretty impressive stuff. They had to develop new software to process Kip Thorne's equations; and now everyone's starting to use it. What's even better is that they didn't edit the images on to a green screen: they literally projected it on the wall behind the set pieces as they were filming

I watched a video of these VFX guys reacting to good and bad movie CGI and they really got into how they built this black hole. Evidently people wrote papers about this movie adaptation and that's just crazy to me.

Oh yes! Making black holes and space scapes with microscopicly nibbed pens will do that for you
