Description My very first tutorial. Hopefully everyone can understand it. I was making a pleated school skirt for my Ryofu cosplay and decided I would take pictures of the entire process and turn it into a tutorial. I also used this same process to make the tiny skirt for my plushies. If you have any questions just ask

Oh and if you use my tutorial to make a skirt I would love to see pictures!

I'd assume a couple yards. If you want to be cautious, then possibly three?

How thick did you make the waste band?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OhThePlushabilities In reply to katharinathecurst [2013-02-17 05:26:03 +0000 UTC]

I made the waistband 8 inches and then folded it over like you see in the 10th step. So after you fold the waistband over and sew it to the other side of the zipper the waistband ends up being 4 inches.

How much overlap did you do on the pleats?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OhThePlushabilities In reply to Skarlog [2013-02-07 03:36:00 +0000 UTC]

I think it was a 1 overlap. It has been a while so I don't remember exactly but I am almost positive it was a 1 inch overlap.

Joker-sMad-Sarcasm [2012-07-26 19:12:50 +0000 UTC]

hmm did you sew the the every pleat up to down or left to right with the waistband?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OhThePlushabilities In reply to Joker-sMad-Sarcasm [2012-07-26 22:28:15 +0000 UTC]

Hmm I am not sure what you mean. I folded every pleat to the left and iron all the pleats down. Then I sewed the waistband on top to keep the pleats in place.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OhThePlushabilities In reply to takaratoast [2011-09-30 02:35:35 +0000 UTC]

For the waistband if you want a 4" waistband then you would cut out an 8" piece of fabric and then fold it in half to create the waistband. To attach the waistband fold the 8" piece you cut out in half, lay it on the right side of the fabric and sew along the top then just flip the waistband over. I hope that makes sense

How would you know how much material would you need? I'm trying to make mine flow-y. Do I have to measure my hips and multiply it by 2? Sorry to bug you. xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OhThePlushabilities In reply to Ashirexx [2011-09-13 01:39:24 +0000 UTC]

Oh no problem at all! I would say you need at least three times as much fabric as your hips. I used 3 yards for mine and had a little left over but I made really tight pleats. The smaller your pleats are ( 1" pleats as opposed to 3" pleats) the more fabric you will need.
