Description Seen One Church...Seen 'Em All!I hesitate to post this Feature as it contains what many people will contend is very dry, boring material with lots of pictures that have no artistic merit. Possibly a valid criticism if you have a disengaged mind. But one of the most significant aspects of Norfolk and East Anglia is the hundreds of medieval churches dating from the 13th century onwards that dot the landscape in towns, villages, hamlets and even ghost towns long ago vanished but for their ecclesiastical history. Further, the church architecture, exterior and interior, is one of Norfolk's and Britain's main sources of historical record. While not a religious person myself, I find these monuments to distant times utterly fascinating, and I could easily spend most of my time studying them. So, here is a very potted guide to some of the main features of a medieval church, just in case you come across one and wish to impress your friends. I've chosen features from many different churches, identifying them in situ. Zoom in t

This is the church in the locality for its architecture and history, Linda. If we were there I would take a very long time to explain everything to you, such as there being amajor port right behind where I'm standing, but the port is long gone and the area silted up. But, the port brought wealth and hence a big church...

Cheers

Wonderful site - I really like the line of rose windows and the colour of the grass matches the colour of the walls very well! Thank you for sharing!

Good comment about the colours, Mayumi. I actually reduced the saturation a tad on this as the grass looked too green.

Many Thanks

Yep - I had waited a few minutes until the "coast was clear" of lots of other people, and in walks Anne to the shot!

A seemingly dead strong church building soon comes to life because of that lady walking up in!
