First thing that pops up on his Wiki page about personality: "Unlike most of the villains in the Sonic series, who are driven by a lust for power or revenge, Mephiles (according to Shadow) only seems to crave nothing more or less than violence and destruction. "
We can see that Mephiles has no interest in worldly affairs, and only cares for revenge and such. He wanted to end an entire race (humans) just because they split him into two pieces. Then he wanted to kill Shadow after he refused to join his side. Not to mention how much he enjoys hurting others and bringing misery.
"Mephiles' main mission was to free his other half Iblis from within Princess Elsie and destroy time itself. To this end, he carved a path of destruction, deceit and death, where he manipulate Silver, tried to convince Shadow to join him, and killed Sonic. Once he succeeded, Mephiles laughed in triumph before fusing with him. The extend Mephiles went to fuse with Iblis and the multiple plots he spawned for that singular goal indicates that Mephiles' only interest during his existence was to reunite with Iblis." Okay. So he laughed after doing all that. That's pretty twisted, don'cha think?
So yeah. That's some of the reason why I don't think he has visible "good" in him, as he's meant to be a Sonic villain with character instead of the usual "blow-y up-y the robots with no mind". To me, Mephiles is a very intelligent being, yet suffers from insanity. I don't see him joining Sonic's side in literally anything, not even in a thousand years (though that would make an interesting story if he were imprisoned for that long to think up things). He's darkness after all. Whatever light is seen is always caused by something else, and isn't created by itself.
It's okay to think he has like... a tiny candle of light in his giant head. But I don't think he'd go off and "save the world" that he hates. Mephiles' entire being was created by human mistakes, thus leading him to get revenge each time, as it is in-character for him to require vengeful actions.
I also think he's based off of a person with Sadism, just by looking at his amounts of manipulation and horror. It's not easy to make a Sadist think about others, if that's even possible. So I'm preeeetyyy sure that Mephiles doesn't have "Good" in him to the extend people think. Not to mention that's just a trope to manipulate villians to turning to the good side. I doubt it'll work on Mephiles, knowing his intelligence.
Just tellin' ya why. Not really trying to start any argument.
